مدھیہ پردیش میں ایک مذہبی رسم کے دوران تقریباً 11 ہزار لیٹر دودھ Narmada River میں بہائے جانے کی ویڈیو نے پورے ملک میں ایک نئی بحث کو جنم دے دیا ہے۔ یہ واقعہ سیہور ضلع کے ایک مندر میں چیترا نوراتری کے موقع پر منعقد ہونے والے 21 روزہ مذہبی پروگرام کا حصہ تھا، جہاں عقیدت مندوں نے اسے عبادت اور عقیدت کا اظہار قرار دیا۔
منتظمین کے مطابق یہ ایک عظیم ’’مہایگیہ‘‘ تھا جس میں بڑی مقدار میں گھی، جڑی بوٹیاں اور دیگر اشیاء استعمال کی گئیں، اور ہزاروں افراد نے شرکت کی۔ ان کا کہنا ہے کہ نرمدا کو ماں کا درجہ حاصل ہے اور یہ رسم اسی عقیدت کا مظہر ہے۔
تاہم سوشل میڈیا اور عوامی حلقوں میں اس عمل پر شدید تنقید بھی سامنے آئی ہے۔ ناقدین کا کہنا ہے کہ ایسے وقت میں جب ریاست میں لاکھوں بچے غذائی قلت کا شکار ہیں، اتنی بڑی مقدار میں دودھ کو ضائع کرنا ایک اخلاقی سوال ہے۔ مزید یہ کہ ماہرینِ ماحولیات نے خبردار کیا ہے کہ دودھ کے پانی میں شامل ہونے سے آبی حیات کو نقصان پہنچ سکتا ہے، کیونکہ اس سے پانی میں آکسیجن کی مقدار کم ہو جاتی ہے اور بیکٹیریا کی افزائش بڑھ جاتی ہے۔
یہ واقعہ محض ایک مذہبی رسم نہیں بلکہ ایک بڑے سوال کو جنم دیتا ہے:
کیا عقیدت کا اظہار انسانی فلاح اور ماحولیات کے تقاضوں کے ساتھ ہم آہنگ ہونا چاہیے؟

Milk Ritual in Narmada River Sparks Ethical Debate
A viral video showing nearly 11,000 litres of milk being poured into the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh has ignited a nationwide debate over faith, sustainability, and public welfare.
The ritual took place during a 21-day religious gathering held in Sehore district as part of the Chaitra Navratri celebrations. Organisers described it as a grand spiritual event, asserting that the offering was an act of devotion, as the river is revered as a mother figure.
However, criticism has been swift and widespread. Many have questioned the morality of such practices in a region where malnutrition remains a serious concern. Critics argue that the milk could have been used to nourish underprivileged children instead of being discarded.
Environmental experts have also raised alarms, noting that pouring large quantities of milk into a river can disrupt aquatic ecosystems. The decomposition process increases bacterial activity, reduces oxygen levels, and threatens fish and other organisms.
Beyond the ritual itself, the incident raises a deeper question:
Should expressions of faith evolve to align with human welfare and environmental responsibility?
