عبدالباری مخلص درویشِ اردو

آج بروز ہفتہ وانمباڑی کی ادبی اور سماجی فضا ایک یادگار لمحے کی گواہ بننے جا رہی ہے، جہاں اردو زبان و ادب کے ایک خاموش مگر درخشاں خادم، ڈاکٹر پی۔ ایس۔ عبدالباری مخلص کے اعزاز میں تکریم و تہنیت کی تقریب منعقد کی جا رہی ہے۔ یہ تقریب ان کی عمر بھر کی ادبی، صحافتی اور سماجی خدمات کے اعتراف کا ایک خوبصورت اظہار ہے۔

20 مئی 1938 کو پیدا ہونے والے عبدالباری مخلص کا تعلق ایسے گھرانے سے ہے جہاں علم و ادب کی خوشبو پہلے ہی سے بسی ہوئی تھی۔ ان کے والد پی۔ ایس۔ عبدالسلام اؤٹی میں اناج کے معروف تاجر تھے، مگر تجارت کے ساتھ ساتھ انہیں علامہ اقبالؒ کی شاعری سے غیر معمولی شغف حاصل تھا۔ وہ اکثر اقبال کے اشعار پڑھتے اور سناتے رہتے تھے۔ یوں کہا جا سکتا ہے کہ اردو سے محبت اور ادبی ذوق مخلص صاحب کو وراثت میں ملا۔

عبدالباری مخلص نے اپنی عملی زندگی کا آغاز 1959 میں مدراس کی معروف کمپنی S. A. Abdul Latheef & Co. (Hide & Skin) میں ملازمت سے کیا۔ بعد ازاں کاروباری میدان میں بھی اپنی صلاحیتوں کا لوہا منوایا۔ 1976 سے 1982 تک ممبئی میں تقریباً پانچ برس تجارت سے وابستہ رہے، جبکہ مدراس میں بھی کاروباری سرگرمیاں جاری رہیں۔

لیکن ان کی اصل شناخت کاروبار نہیں بلکہ اردو کی بے لوث خدمت بنی۔ 1997 میں انہوں نے اردو کی خدمت کا آغاز ایک مختصر رسالے "آمادہ” سے کیا۔ اسی سال ایک پمفلٹ کی صورت میں اردو بیداری کی مہم شروع ہوئی جو بعد کے برسوں میں "نشانِ منزل” کے نام سے معروف ہوئی۔ یہ محض ایک اشاعت نہیں بلکہ اردو سے محبت کرنے والوں کے لیے ایک فکری اور ادبی تحریک ثابت ہوئی۔ نومبر 2021 میں "نشانِ منزل” کی پچیسویں سالگرہ منائی گئی، جو اس مشن کی کامیابی اور استقامت کا روشن ثبوت ہے۔

عبدالباری مخلص کی زندگی اس حقیقت کی آئینہ دار ہے کہ زبانوں کی خدمت صرف قلم سے نہیں بلکہ اخلاص، استقامت اور خاموش جدوجہد سے بھی کی جاتی ہے۔ انہوں نے کسی شہرت یا صلے کی خواہش کے بغیر اردو کے چراغ کو روشن رکھنے کی سعی کی، اور یہی ان کی سب سے بڑی پہچان ہے۔

آج جب انہیں صحافت و اشاعت کے میدان میں خدمات کے اعتراف میں اعزازی ڈاکٹریٹ اور بین الاقوامی سطح پر قدر افزائی سے نوازا جا رہا ہے، تو یہ دراصل ایک فرد کی نہیں بلکہ اردو زبان سے محبت، تہذیبی وابستگی اور علمی خدمت کی تکریم ہے۔

Honouring a Lifelong Servant of Urdu: Dr. P. S. Abdul Bari Mukhlish

Today, the literary and cultural community of Vaniyambadi gathers to celebrate a remarkable son of Urdu, Dr. P. S. Abdul Bari Mukhlish, whose lifelong dedication to language, journalism, and publishing is being recognized through a special felicitation ceremony.

Born on 20 May 1938, Abdul Bari Mukhlish inherited his love for literature from his father, P. S. Abdus Salam, a grain merchant from Ooty. Beyond business, Abdus Salam possessed a deep admiration for the poetry of Allama Iqbal and frequently recited his verses. The literary sensibility that later shaped Mukhlish Sahib’s life can thus be traced back to this rich family tradition.

His professional journey began in 1959 with S. A. Abdul Latheef & Co. (Hide & Skin), Madras. In later years, he ventured into business and remained engaged in trade in Bombay from 1976 to 1982, while also maintaining commercial interests in Madras.

Yet commerce was only one chapter of his story. His true calling emerged in the service of Urdu. In 1997, he launched a publication titled “Amada”, marking the beginning of a mission dedicated to promoting Urdu language and culture. Around the same period, he started distributing literary pamphlets that eventually evolved into “Nishan-e-Manzil,” a publication that became a respected platform for Urdu readers and writers. In November 2021, the silver jubilee of Nishan-e-Manzil was celebrated, reflecting twenty-five years of unwavering commitment to literary and cultural enrichment.

Dr. Abdul Bari Mukhlish represents a generation of cultural custodians who worked quietly, without seeking recognition, to preserve and promote the heritage of Urdu. His efforts demonstrate that the survival of a language depends not only on institutions but also on devoted individuals willing to dedicate their lives to its cause.

As he receives recognition today for his contributions to journalism, publishing, and cultural service, the honour extends beyond one individual. It is a tribute to perseverance, scholarship, and the enduring spirit of Urdu itself.
