سمندر کے بیچ ایک جہاز رکا ہوا ہے۔ مسافر کھڑکیوں سے ہاتھ ہلا رہے ہیں، فوجی طیارے تیار کھڑے ہیں، طبی اہلکار حفاظتی لباس میں ملبوس ہیں، اور دنیا ایک بار پھر کسی انجانے خوف کے سائے میں سانس لے رہی ہے۔
MV Hondius پر پھیلنے والا ہنٹا وائرس اب صرف ایک طبی خبر نہیں رہا بلکہ عالمی بے چینی کی ایک علامت بنتا جا رہا ہے۔
یہ جہاز یکم اپریل کو ارجنٹینا سے روانہ ہوا تھا۔ ابتدا میں کسی کو اندازہ نہ تھا کہ ایک سیاحتی سفر آہستہ آہستہ عالمی طبی نگرانی کا مرکز بن جائے گا۔ چند مسافروں میں سانس کی شدید بیماری کی علامات ظاہر ہوئیں، پھر اموات کی خبریں آئیں، اور اب مختلف ممالک اپنے شہریوں کو الگ تھلگ مراکز میں منتقل کر رہے ہیں۔
اب تک کم از کم تین افراد ہلاک ہوچکے ہیں جبکہ کئی متاثرین مختلف اسپتالوں میں زیرِ علاج ہیں۔ امریکہ، فرانس، نیدرلینڈز، برطانیہ، جرمنی اور دیگر ممالک نے متاثرہ یا مشتبہ مسافروں کی نگرانی شروع کردی ہے۔ بعض کو 42 دن تک قرنطینہ میں رکھنے کا فیصلہ کیا گیا ہے۔
ماہرین کے مطابق اس وبا کا تعلق “Andes strain” سے ہوسکتا ہے، جو جنوبی امریکہ کے بعض علاقوں میں پایا جاتا ہے۔ یہ ہنٹا وائرس کی وہ نایاب قسم ہے جس کے بارے میں خیال کیا جاتا ہے کہ یہ انسان سے انسان میں منتقل ہوسکتی ہے۔ یہی پہلو عالمی تشویش کو بڑھا رہا ہے۔
تحقیقات کا دائرہ اب ارجنٹینا کے جنوبی شہر Ushuaia تک پہنچ چکا ہے، جہاں سے جہاز نے سفر شروع کیا تھا۔ شبہ ظاہر کیا جا رہا ہے کہ بعض مسافر کسی ایسی جگہ گئے تھے جہاں چوہوں یا جنگلی rodents کے فضلے سے وائرس پھیلا ہو۔ تاہم ابھی تک حتمی سبب سامنے نہیں آیا۔
World Health Organization مسلسل صورتحال پر نظر رکھے ہوئے ہے، اور عالمی ادارے اس بات کا جائزہ لے رہے ہیں کہ آیا یہ وائرس محدود دائرے میں رہے گا یا سرحدوں سے آگے ایک بڑے خطرے کی شکل اختیار کرسکتا ہے۔

فی الحال ماہرین یہ واضح کر رہے ہیں کہ ہنٹا وائرس COVID-19 کی طرح تیزی سے نہیں پھیلتا، لیکن اس کی شرحِ اموات کہیں زیادہ ہوسکتی ہے۔ یہی وجہ ہے کہ خوف صرف بیماری کا نہیں بلکہ غیر یقینی مستقبل کا بھی ہے۔

Health experts believe the outbreak may be linked to the “Andes strain” of hantavirus, found in parts of South America. This particular strain is considered rare because it is believed capable of limited human-to-human transmission — a detail that has sharply intensified international concern.
Investigators are now tracing the origins of the outbreak back to the southern Argentine city of Ushuaia, where the ship began its voyage. Reports suggest that some passengers may have visited locations contaminated by infected rodents or their droppings, though no definitive source has yet been confirmed.
The World Health Organization continues to monitor the situation closely while scientists assess whether the virus will remain contained or evolve into a broader international threat.
The world learned during the COVID-19 pandemic that outbreaks often begin quietly. At first they seem like isolated illnesses affecting only a few individuals, but delay, complacency, and global mobility can rapidly transform them into worldwide crises.
For now, experts stress that hantavirus does not spread as easily as COVID-19. Yet its fatality rate can be significantly higher. That is why the fear surrounding this outbreak is not only about disease itself, but also about uncertainty.
The incident also exposes a deeper reality of modern civilisation: the more interconnected the world becomes, the more vulnerable it may also be. One ship, one port, one infected traveller — and suddenly the entire planet is on alert.
Perhaps this is not only a moment for medical caution, but also a reminder for humanity to rethink its fragile relationship with nature itself.
