کولکاتا کے مضافاتی علاقے مدھیام گرام کے دوہاریہ علاقے میں بھارتیہ جنتا پارٹی (BJP) کے سینئر رہنما اور مغربی بنگال کے ممکنہ وزیرِ اعلیٰ امیدوار Suvendu Adhikari کے قریبی معاون چندر ناتھ راتھ کو نامعلوم حملہ آوروں نے گولی مار کر ہلاک کر دیا۔
اطلاعات کے مطابق 6 مئی کی رات تقریباً 10 بجے موٹر سائیکل سوار حملہ آوروں نے ان کی گاڑی کو روک کر نزدیک سے فائرنگ کی۔ چندر ناتھ راتھ موقع پر ہی دم توڑ گئے جبکہ گاڑی کا ڈرائیور شدید زخمی حالت میں کولکاتا کے SSKM Hospital میں زیرِ علاج ہے۔
بنگالی اخبار آنند بازار پتریکا کے مطابق Suvendu Adhikari نے اس قتل کو “سوچی سمجھی سازش اور کئی دنوں کی نگرانی کے بعد کیا گیا سفاکانہ قتل” قرار دیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اس سلسلے میں مغربی بنگال کے ڈائریکٹر جنرل آف پولیس Rajeev Kumar سے بات ہوئی ہے، تاہم تفتیش کے مفاد میں مزید تفصیلات ظاہر نہیں کی جا سکتیں۔
ادھیکاری مدھیام گرام کے اسپتال بھی پہنچے جہاں مقتول کی اہلیہ کے علاوہ مرکزی وزیر اور بنگال بی جے پی کے رہنما Sukanta Majumdar بھی ان کے ہمراہ موجود تھے۔ انہوں نے اعلان کیا کہ بی جے پی زخمی ڈرائیور کے علاج اور مقتول کے خاندان کی مکمل مالی مدد کرے گی۔
ادھر بی جے پی کے ریاستی صدر Samik Bhattacharya نے اس واقعے پر شدید ردِعمل ظاہر کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ “یہ ایک سیاسی پیغام ہے۔ اپوزیشن لیڈر کے معاون کو قتل کرنا جمہوری سیاست پر حملہ ہے۔”
یہ امر بھی قابلِ ذکر ہے کہ 2013 میں Suvendu Adhikari کے ایک سابق ذاتی معاون پردیپ جھا بھی پراسرار حالات میں کولکاتا میں مردہ پائے گئے تھے، اس وقت ادھیکاری ترنمول کانگریس (TMC) میں شامل تھے۔
BJP Leader Suvendu Adhikari’s Aide Shot Dead in West Bengal
Chandranath Rath, a close aide of senior BJP leader and West Bengal opposition figure Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead in the Doharia area of Madhyamgram on the northwestern outskirts of Kolkata.
According to reports, motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted Rath’s car around 10 p.m. on May 6 and opened fire at point-blank range. Rath died on the spot, while the driver sustained serious injuries and was admitted to SSKM Hospital.
Speaking to local media, Suvendu Adhikari described the murder as a “cold-blooded killing carried out after days of surveillance and careful planning.” He confirmed that he had spoken to West Bengal Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar but refrained from disclosing further details due to the ongoing investigation.
Adhikari later visited the hospital along with Rath’s wife and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar. He assured that the BJP would bear all medical expenses for the injured driver and provide support to the deceased’s family.
Meanwhile, West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya strongly condemned the incident, calling it “a dangerous political message and an attack on democratic opposition.”
The incident has also revived memories of 2013, when another former aide of Adhikari, Pradip Jha, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Kolkata while Adhikari was still associated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
