ایم۔ کے۔ اسٹالن نے کہا ہے کہ حکمراں جماعت Narendra Modi کی قیادت والی Bharatiya Janata Party نہ صرف اسکیموں کے نام تبدیل کر رہی ہے بلکہ خدشہ ہے کہ مستقبل میں بھارتی کرنسی سے بھی Mahatma Gandhi کی تصویر ہٹانے کی کوشش کی جا سکتی ہے۔
وہ مدورائی کے Gandhi Memorial Museum میں منعقدہ ایک تقریب سے خطاب کر رہے تھے، جس کا اہتمام Makkal Needhi Maiam کے سربراہ Kamal Haasan نے کیا تھا۔
وزیر اعلیٰ نے مہاتما گاندھی نیشنل رورل ایمپلائمنٹ گارنٹی ایکٹ (MGNREGA) کے نام میں تبدیلی پر تنقید کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ یہ صرف نام کی تبدیلی نہیں بلکہ ایک نظریے کو پس منظر میں دھکیلنے کی کوشش ہے۔
اجلاس میں مختلف جماعتوں کے قائدین — بشمول Vaiko اور Thol. Thirumavalavan — نے گاندھی کے سیکولر اور سوشلسٹ وژن کو یاد کرتے ہوئے اتحاد پر زور دیا۔
کمل ہاسن نے کہا: “گاندھی ایک خیال ہے — جسے ہم سب بانٹ سکتے ہیں۔” انہوں نے نئی نسل کو گاندھی کے فلسفے کو سمجھنے کی دعوت دی۔
سیاسی ماحول میں یہ بیان محض تنقید نہیں بلکہ ایک علامتی انتباہ کے طور پر دیکھا جا رہا ہے، جہاں شناخت، تاریخ اور آئینی اقدار بحث کا مرکز بنے ہوئے ہیں۔

Madurai, February 21, 2026:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Saturday criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that after renaming the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the Union government might even attempt to remove Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait from Indian currency notes.
He was addressing a gathering at the Gandhi Memorial Museum, organised by Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan.
Mr. Stalin described the renaming of schemes as more than administrative change, suggesting it reflects a shift in ideological direction.
Several leaders, including Vaiko and Thol. Thirumavalavan, highlighted Gandhi’s role in shaping India’s secular and inclusive constitutional framework.
Kamal Haasan remarked, “Gandhi is an idea we can all share,” urging the younger generation to rediscover the moral and political relevance of Gandhian thought in the modern era.
The event underscored a broader political debate about identity, constitutional values, and the symbolic power of national icons in contemporary India.
