دارالحکومت کی سڑکیں آج بھی روشن ہیں، مگر ان روشنیوں کے بیچ کہیں کوئی سایہ گم ہو گیا ہے۔ کوئی بیٹی، کوئی ماں، کوئی بھائی—اعداد میں سمٹتے یہ نام محض فائلوں کی سطریں نہیں، یہ گھروں کے دروازوں پر ٹکی آنکھیں ہیں، جو رات گئے بھی لوٹ آنے کی امید سے بجھتی نہیں۔

لاپتہ افراد کی خبریں اب محض ایک روزہ سرخی نہیں رہیں۔ یہ ہمارے اجتماعی شعور پر دستک دیتی ہیں۔ سوال یہ نہیں کہ کس جماعت نے کیا کہا، یا کس حکومت نے کس پر الزام رکھا—سوال یہ ہے کہ ریاست کی ذمہ داری کہاں ٹھہرتی ہے اور انسان کی حرمت کہاں کھو جاتی ہے۔

جب اقتدار کے ایوانوں میں بحث شور بن جائے اور گلیوں میں خوف خاموشی، تو سمجھ لیجیے کہ مسئلہ صرف نظم و نسق کا نہیں رہا۔ یہ اخلاقی بحران ہے۔ وہ بحران جس میں عورت کی سلامتی ایک وعدہ بن کر رہ جائے، اور شہری کا اعتماد ایک فائل میں بند نوٹ۔

پولیس کے اعداد و شمار اگر تسلی دیتے ہیں تو یہ بھی سچ ہے کہ اعداد کبھی آنسو نہیں پونچھتے۔ کسی ماں کے لیے “اپ ڈیٹ” کافی نہیں، اسے بیٹے کی آہٹ چاہیے۔ کسی باپ کے لیے پریس بریفنگ کافی نہیں، اسے بیٹی کی سلامتی کا یقین چاہیے۔ اور کسی شہر کے لیے سیاست کافی نہیں، اسے انصاف چاہیے—نظر آنے والا، محسوس ہونے والا۔

یہ وقت الزام تراشی سے آگے بڑھنے کا ہے۔ یہ وقت ہے جواب دہی، شفافیت اور فوری عمل کا۔ یہ وقت ہے کہ طاقت ور ادارے کمزور کی زبان سمجھیں، اور قانون کی گرفت اتنی مضبوط ہو کہ خوف کی جڑ کاٹ دے۔ یہ وقت ہے کہ ہم خبر کو صرف پڑھیں نہیں، اس کے سامنے کھڑے ہوں۔

اگر آج ہم نے سوال نہ کیا، اگر آج ہم نے انسانی وقار کو مرکز نہ بنایا، تو کل شہر اور بڑے ہوں گے—اور سائے اور گہرے۔
الف نیوز سمجھتا ہے کہ ریاست کی اصل کامیابی اعداد میں نہیں، انسان کی واپسی میں ناپی جاتی ہے۔

When Cities Fall Silent and People Go Missing

The streets of the capital are still lit, yet somewhere within that glow, a shadow has disappeared. A daughter, a mother, a brother — reduced to numbers on paper, but in reality, living questions knocking endlessly on the doors of waiting homes.

Reports of missing persons are no longer fleeting headlines. They are moral alarms ringing within our collective conscience. The question is not which party accused whom, or which government defended itself better. The real question is this: where does the responsibility of the State rest, and where does human dignity vanish?

When debates in the corridors of power turn loud, while fear in the streets grows silent, the crisis ceases to be merely administrative. It becomes ethical. A crisis where women’s safety is reduced to a promise, and public trust is filed away as paperwork.

Police data may attempt reassurance, but numbers do not wipe tears. An “update” cannot replace a son’s return for a mother. A press briefing cannot guarantee safety to a father awaiting his daughter. And politics alone cannot comfort a city that seeks justice — visible, tangible, and humane.

This moment demands more than blame games. It calls for accountability, transparency, and immediate action. It calls for institutions strong enough to hear the voice of the vulnerable, and laws firm enough to uproot fear at its source. It calls for citizens not merely to read the news, but to stand before it.

If we fail to question today, if we fail to place human dignity at the centre of governance, tomorrow our cities will grow larger — and the shadows within them darker.
