جمہوریت کا امتحان — اور قوم کا آئینی وعدہ

جب شور بہت بڑھ جائے تو سچ دھیرے بولتا ہے۔
اور جب سیاست طاقت کی واحد زبان بن جائے،
تو آئین خاموشی سے اپنا مقدمہ پیش کرتا ہے۔

بھارت آج ایک ایسے سیاسی موسم سے گزر رہا ہے جہاں اقتدار کی تپش نے اقدار کی ہوا کو کمزور کر دیا ہے۔ انتخابی نعروں کی گونج، الزامات کی گرد اور مسلسل ہیجان کے درمیان وہ آواز دبتی محسوس ہوتی ہے جو انصاف، مساوات اور سماجی ہم آہنگی کی بات کرتی تھی۔ حالانکہ یہی آواز کسی بھی جمہوری معاشرے کی اصل شناخت ہوتی ہے۔

جمہوریت کی روح بیلٹ بکس سے کہیں آگے سانس لیتی ہے۔
یہ اس لمحے بولتی ہے جب اقتدار سوال سے نہ گھبرائے،
جب اختلاف کو دیوار سے نہ لگایا جائے،
اور جب کمزور کی بات سننا بوجھ نہیں
بلکہ اجتماعی ذمہ داری سمجھا جائے۔

آج سیاسی گفتگو اکثر مکالمہ نہیں رہتی، بلکہ محاذ بن جاتی ہے۔ پارلیمنٹ ہو یا عوامی میدان، زبان کی سختی اور نیت کی تنگی نے فاصلوں کو گہرا کر دیا ہے۔ جب تنقید دشمنی اور اختلاف بغاوت کہلانے لگے تو جمہوری فضا سکڑنے لگتی ہے۔ تاریخ ہمیں بار بار یاد دلاتی ہے کہ قومیں نعروں سے نہیں، اداروں کے احترام اور قانون کی بالادستی سے زندہ رہتی ہیں۔

میڈیا، جسے جمہوری نظام کا نگہبان سمجھا جاتا ہے، خود ایک کڑے امتحان میں مبتلا ہے۔ سچ کی تلاش کے بجائے سنسنی کی دوڑ، سوال کے بجائے شور—یہ سب عوامی شعور کو آہستہ آہستہ کمزور کرتے ہیں۔ اسی طرح سیاست میں طاقت کا بےمحابا استعمال اخلاقی قدروں کو پس منظر میں دھکیل دیتا ہے، حالانکہ طاقت لمحاتی ہوتی ہے اور اصول دیرپا۔

بھارت کی اصل قوت اس کی کثرت میں وحدت ہے۔
یہ ملک زبانوں سے بنتا ہے،
مذہبوں سے نہیں ٹوٹتا۔
یہ اختلاف سے بکھرتا نہیں،
بلکہ انصاف سے جڑتا ہے۔

آئین نے ہمیں برابری، آزادی اور انصاف کا وعدہ دیا تھا۔ اس وعدے کی حفاظت کسی ایک حکومت یا جماعت کی ذمہ داری نہیں، بلکہ اپوزیشن، میڈیا اور ہر باشعور شہری کا مشترکہ فرض ہے۔

یہ وقت جذبات کے فیصلوں کا نہیں، فہم کی سیاست کا ہے۔ نفرت کے شور میں امید کی شمع جلائے رکھنا ہوگی۔ اختلاف کے حق کو تسلیم کرنا ہوگا اور مکالمے کو تصادم پر ترجیح دینی ہوگی۔ جمہوریت روزانہ کی نگہداشت مانگتی ہے۔

اگر ہم نے اس کی حفاظت نہ کی
تو آنے والی نسلیں ہم سے
صرف سوال نہیں کریں گی،
فیصلہ بھی سنائیں گی۔

Democracy on Trial — and the Constitutional Promise of a Nation

When noise grows louder, truth begins to speak softly.
And when politics learns only the language of power,
the Constitution presents its case in silence.

India today is passing through a political season where the heat of power has weakened the winds of values. Amid echoing slogans, swirling accusations, and constant agitation, the voice that speaks of justice, equality, and social harmony seems increasingly subdued. Yet this very voice forms the true identity of a democratic society.

The soul of democracy breathes far beyond the ballot box.
It speaks when power does not fear questions,
when disagreement is not pushed against a wall,
and when listening to the weak is seen
not as a burden, but as a collective responsibility.

Political conversation today often turns into confrontation rather than dialogue. Whether in Parliament or in public spaces, harsh language and narrow intent have deepened divisions. When criticism is labelled hostility and disagreement is treated as rebellion, the democratic atmosphere begins to shrink. History reminds us again and again that nations survive not on slogans, but on respect for institutions and the supremacy of law.

The media, regarded as a guardian of democracy, finds itself under severe test. The race for sensation over truth, noise over inquiry, gradually weakens public consciousness. Likewise, the unchecked use of power in politics pushes ethical values into the background—forgetting that power is momentary, while principles endure.

India’s true strength lies in unity within diversity.
This nation is shaped by languages,
not fractured by faiths.
It is not weakened by difference,
but strengthened by justice.

The Constitution promised equality, liberty, and justice. Protecting this promise is not the responsibility of any single government or party, but a shared duty of the opposition, the media, and every conscious citizen.

This is not a time for emotional decisions, but for politics guided by understanding. Amid the din of hatred, the flame of hope must be kept alive. The right to disagree must be upheld, and dialogue must be chosen over confrontation. Democracy demands daily care and vigilance.

If we fail to protect it today,
future generations will not merely question us—
they will judge us.
