Delhi Protests Enter Second Day as Freed CJP Leaders Vow to Continue Fight

New Delhi, October 11, 2026

Protests continued in Delhi for a second consecutive day on Sunday as the Gen Z-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) renewed its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls. Thousands of security personnel have been deployed across the capital, with barricades erected on several roads.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and other leaders, who were arrested upon arriving in Delhi on Saturday, were released on Sunday. Speaking after his release, Dipke declared that the CJP would neither back down nor be intimidated.

According to media reports, around 7,000 protesters were detained and subsequently released on Saturday. Hundreds more were detained on Sunday as demonstrations continued in different parts of the city.

At a press conference on Sunday, CJP spokespersons Ashutosh Ranka and Souro Das condemned the large-scale detention of protesters from different parts of Delhi ahead of the planned demonstration. They described the situation as an “undeclared Emergency”, with Ranka and Das asserting that it was worse than the Emergency of 1975, which they said they had heard about from their parents.

Meanwhile, ASIA leader Neha Bora, accompanied by several students, broke through barricades at Jantar Mantar and marched towards Connaught Place. She was subsequently detained again.

Bora vowed to continue the agitation, declaring that protests would take place every day unless Gyanesh Kumar resigned.

The demonstrations are rooted in allegations of irregularities and the removal of voters’ names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Protesters have raised questions about electoral transparency and demanded that the Chief Election Commissioner accept moral responsibility and step down.

The continuing detentions, extensive security deployment and restrictions on demonstrations have intensified the debate over the right to peaceful protest, electoral accountability and civil liberties in the world’s largest democracy.
