Sonam Wangchuk threatens to launch hunger strike or a Padyatra against Delhi Police: Read Details below

Aleph News (New Delhi) — Renowned Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk has threatened to launch an Anshan Fast (hunger strike) or a Padyatra (foot march) in response to the Delhi Police’s extensive crackdown and mass detention of youth activists, lawyers, and prominent opposition leaders.

The core reasons driving his ultimatum include:

  • Crackdown on the Anti-CEC Rally: The mass detentions took place in New Delhi just before a large-scale demonstration organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The youth-led movement is forcefully demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, alleging critical discrepancies and manipulation within the electoral roll revision process.
  • Condemnation of an "Undeclared Emergency”: Deeply shocked by the police actions—which included the detention of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke along with major political figures—Wangchuk lambasted the state machinery. He stated that he never envisioned the world’s largest democracy succumbing to what closely resembles an "undeclared emergency”.
  • Ultimatum for Direct Release: Wangchuk, who currently remains in Ladakh to oversee vital winter water security initiatives (such as artificial glaciers), has issued a definitive 24-hour deadline. He declared that he will be left with no choice but to fast or march if the administration fails to release all peacefully protesting leaders and youths by Sunday.

Wangchuk previously formed an alliance with the CJP during June and July, staging a high-profile 26-day hunger strike in New Delhi to protest against the NEET-UG examination paper leaks.
