At a time when the glow of screens has increasingly overshadowed the quiet dignity of the printed page, a recent development from Hyderabad represents more than an invitation to a conference. It is a reminder of the enduring power of books and the continuing journey of publishing across borders.
Syed Abdul Basit Shakeel, Managing Director of Huda Publications, Hyderabad, has been invited to attend the first International Islamic Publishers Conference in Istanbul, Türkiye, scheduled for September 24–27, 2026. Publishers from 68 countries, numbering around 300, are expected to participate in discussions on the challenges, opportunities and future direction of Islamic publishing. Shakeel has also been made a member of the Global Book Fair Committee.
The significance of this development goes beyond one institution or one individual. It represents the journey of a publishing effort that began locally and has reached an international platform.
Huda Publications itself emphasizes that books retain their importance even in the age of the internet, arguing that quality content, printing and presentation can help books maintain their place alongside electronic media.
A book is far more than paper bound between two covers.
It can become a child’s first window into knowledge, a young person’s invitation to question, a society’s connection with its history, and a civilization’s voice carried across generations.
In an age of instant information and shrinking attention spans, books offer something increasingly precious: the opportunity to pause, reflect, understand and think deeply. For this reason, publishing Islamic literature is not merely a commercial undertaking. It also carries an intellectual, cultural and educational responsibility.
Seen in this wider context, Huda Publications’ 25-year journey and its presence on an international publishing platform represent a significant moment. A publishing initiative that began at the local level has now entered a global conversation.
The Qur’an reminds us:
“Nun. By the pen and by what they write.”
— Qur’an, Surah Al-Qalam 68:1
In an age overwhelmed by noise, the significance of these words remains profound. The pen may be quiet, but its echo can travel across generations.
The Istanbul gathering therefore raises a question that extends far beyond publishing:
If books fall silent, where will future generations find the intellectual memory of their civilization?
Societies that publish books, preserve them and place them in the hands of younger generations are, in reality, lighting lamps for the future.
**The book has not disappeared; it is waiting for hands willing to open it again.**
It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution
