جمہوریت کی اصل طاقت عوام کی آواز اور اختلافِ رائے کے احترام میں پوشیدہ ہوتی ہے۔ جب نوجوان اپنے تعلیمی مستقبل، امتحانی نظام اور شفافیت کے مطالبات کے ساتھ سڑکوں پر آتے ہیں تو ریاست کی اولین ذمہ داری یہ ہوتی ہے کہ ان کی بات سنے، نہ کہ طاقت کے ذریعے انہیں خاموش کرنے کی کوشش کرے۔

لوک سبھا میں قائدِ حزبِ اختلاف راہل گاندھی نے پارلیمان کے باہر طلبہ پر پولیس کارروائی کو سخت تنقید کا نشانہ بناتے ہوئے وزیرِ اعظم نریندر مودی سے معافی اور استعفے کا مطالبہ کیا ہے۔ انہوں نے یہ بھی کہا کہ ملک کا تعلیمی اور امتحانی نظام شدید بحران کا شکار ہے اور طلبہ اسی حقیقت کی طرف توجہ دلانا چاہتے ہیں۔ حکومت کی جانب سے ان الزامات پر اپنا مؤقف پیش کیا جانا بھی جمہوری عمل کا حصہ ہے، تاہم اس سے قطعِ نظر یہ سوال اپنی جگہ موجود ہے کہ احتجاج کرنے والے طلبہ کے ساتھ طاقت کے استعمال کو کس حد تک جائز قرار دیا جا سکتا ہے۔

تعلیم کسی بھی قوم کے مستقبل کی بنیاد ہوتی ہے۔ اگر نوجوانوں کا اعتماد امتحانی نظام، تقرریوں اور تعلیمی اداروں سے اٹھنے لگے تو اس کے اثرات صرف موجودہ نسل تک محدود نہیں رہتے بلکہ آنے والی نسلیں بھی اس کا خمیازہ بھگتتی ہیں۔ ایسے حالات میں حکومت، حزبِ اختلاف، عدلیہ اور تعلیمی اداروں کی مشترکہ ذمہ داری ہے کہ وہ سیاسی الزام تراشی سے بالاتر ہو کر مسئلے کا دیرپا حل تلاش کریں۔

جمہوریت میں اختلاف کو دشمنی نہیں سمجھا جاتا بلکہ اصلاح کا ذریعہ تصور کیا جاتا ہے۔ اگر نوجوانوں کے سوالات کا جواب مکالمے، شفاف تحقیقات اور اصلاحات کے ذریعے دیا جائے تو عوامی اعتماد مضبوط ہوگا۔ لیکن اگر احتجاج کا جواب صرف لاٹھی، آنسو گیس اور گرفتاریوں سے دیا جائے تو بے چینی اور عدم اعتماد میں اضافہ ہی ہوگا۔

یہ وقت سیاسی محاذ آرائی کو بڑھانے کا نہیں بلکہ نوجوانوں کے مستقبل کو محفوظ بنانے کا ہے۔ حکومت کو چاہیے کہ احتجاج کے اسباب کا سنجیدگی سے جائزہ لے، تعلیمی نظام میں ضروری اصلاحات کرے اور تمام متعلقہ فریقوں کے ساتھ بامعنی مذاکرات کا آغاز کرے۔ ایک مضبوط جمہوریت کی پہچان یہی ہے کہ وہ اختلافی آوازوں کو سننے کا حوصلہ رکھتی ہے، نہ کہ انہیں دبانے کا۔

Students Deserve Dialogue, Not Force

The strength of a democracy lies in its willingness to listen to dissent, especially when that dissent comes from young people concerned about their future. When students take to the streets demanding transparency, accountability, and reforms in the education and examination system, the first responsibility of the State is to engage with them rather than suppress their voices through force.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has strongly criticised the police action against student protesters and called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologise, while also demanding the resignations of the Prime Minister and Home Minister. He argued that India’s education and testing system is in deep crisis and that students are merely expressing legitimate concerns. The government is entitled to present its own position, but the broader question remains whether the use of force against peaceful protesters is an appropriate democratic response.

Education is the foundation of a nation’s future. When confidence in examinations, recruitment processes, and educational institutions begins to erode, the consequences extend far beyond the present generation. Restoring public trust requires transparency, credible reforms, and meaningful engagement with stakeholders rather than political confrontation.

Democracy is strengthened not by silencing criticism but by addressing it with openness and accountability. If the concerns of students are met with dialogue, impartial inquiry, and institutional reform, public confidence will grow. If they are met only with batons, tear gas, and arrests, distrust and alienation are likely to deepen.

This is a moment for responsible leadership from all sides. Instead of allowing the issue to become another political battlefield, every effort should be made to ensure that the concerns of students are heard, examined, and addressed. A confident democracy is one that has the courage to listen to its youth.
