20 تاریخ تک میں ہر قیمت پر زندہ رہوں گا: سونم وانگچک

نئی دہلی: ماہرِ تعلیم، ماحولیاتی کارکن اور اختراعی شخصیت سونم وانگچک کی غیر معینہ مدت کی بھوک ہڑتال جمعہ کو بیسویں روز میں داخل ہوگئی، جبکہ معالجین نے ان کی صحت کو انتہائی تشویشناک قرار دیا ہے۔ اس کے باوجود وانگچک نے اپنے حامیوں سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ وہ "ہر قیمت پر 20 جولائی تک زندہ رہیں گے” تاکہ اسی روز پارلیمنٹ کی جانب پرامن مارچ میں شریک ہو سکیں۔

ڈاکٹروں کے مطابق مسلسل روزے کے باعث وانگچک کا وزن نو کلوگرام سے زیادہ کم ہو چکا ہے اور اگر یہی صورتحال برقرار رہی تو جسم کے اہم اعضاء متاثر ہونے کا خدشہ ہے۔ تاہم انہوں نے کہا کہ اگرچہ وہ جسمانی طور پر کمزور ہیں، لیکن ان کا حوصلہ اور عزم پہلے سے زیادہ مضبوط ہے۔

ادھر دہلی ہائی کورٹ نے جنتر منتر پر جاری احتجاج کے دوران مبینہ مسلسل پولیس نگرانی اور مظاہرین کی تصویربرداری و ویڈیو ریکارڈنگ کے خلاف دائر مفادِ عامہ کی درخواست (PIL) پر 20 جولائی کو سماعت کرنے پر آمادگی ظاہر کی ہے۔ درخواست گزاروں کا مؤقف ہے کہ اس قسم کی نگرانی مظاہرین کے بنیادی حقِ رازداری اور پرامن احتجاج کے حق کو متاثر کرتی ہے۔

وانگچک کی بھوک ہڑتال کو مختلف سیاسی جماعتوں، طلبہ تنظیموں، سماجی کارکنوں اور فلمی شخصیات کی جانب سے مسلسل حمایت حاصل ہو رہی ہے۔ کانگریس کے رہنما پون کھیڑا نے جنتر منتر پہنچ کر وانگچک سے ملاقات کی اور ان کی صحت پر تشویش کا اظہار کرتے ہوئے حکومت سے مذاکرات کا مطالبہ کیا۔ شیو سینا (ادھو) کے رکن پارلیمنٹ سنجے راوت، کانگریس کی کماری سیلجا، سکم یونیورسٹی اسٹوڈنٹس ایسوسی ایشن اور متعدد دیگر رہنماؤں نے بھی حکومت سے حساس رویہ اختیار کرنے کی اپیل کی ہے۔

اداکار عامر خان نے واضح کیا کہ فلم "3 Idiots” کا کردار سونم وانگچک پر مبنی نہیں تھا، تاہم انہوں نے وانگچک کی خدمات کو قابلِ احترام قرار دیتے ہوئے ان سے اپنی بھوک ہڑتال ختم کرنے کی درخواست کی۔ فلم ساز کرن راؤ سمیت کئی فنکاروں نے بھی سوشل میڈیا پر ان کے ساتھ اظہارِ یکجہتی کیا ہے۔

اس دوران دہلی ہائی کورٹ پہلے ہی مرکزی اور دہلی حکومت کو ہدایت دے چکی ہے کہ سونم وانگچک کا باقاعدگی سے طبی معائنہ کرایا جائے تاکہ ان کی جان کے تحفظ کو یقینی بنایا جا سکے۔

Sonam Wangchuk’s Hunger Strike Enters Day 20; Health Turns Critical, Delhi High Court to Hear Surveillance Plea on July 20

New Delhi: Educator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike entered its 20th day on Friday, with doctors warning that his health has reached a critical stage. Despite his deteriorating condition, Wangchuk declared that he would "stay alive till July 20 at any cost” so he could participate in a peaceful march to Parliament.

Medical experts said Wangchuk has lost more than nine kilograms since the fast began and cautioned that prolonged fasting could soon affect vital organs. Addressing supporters at Jantar Mantar, Wangchuk acknowledged his physical weakness but said his determination remained stronger than ever.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court agreed to hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on July 20 challenging the alleged continuous police surveillance, photography, and videography of protesters at Jantar Mantar. The petition argues that such monitoring violates the protesters’ right to privacy and peaceful dissent.

Support for Wangchuk continues to grow across political parties, student organisations, civil society groups, and the film industry. Congress leader Pawan Khera visited the protest site and urged the government to engage with the protesters while expressing concern over Wangchuk’s health. Leaders including Sanjay Raut, Kumari Selja, and several student organisations have also called for greater sensitivity from the government.

Actor Aamir Khan clarified that his character in 3 Idiots was not based on Sonam Wangchuk, but praised the activist’s work and appealed to him to end his fast. Filmmaker Kiran Rao and several other public figures have also voiced solidarity with the protest.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court directed the Union and Delhi governments to ensure regular medical monitoring of Wangchuk, emphasising that the life of every citizen must be protected while respecting the democratic right to peaceful protest.
