وزیراعظم نریندر مودی کو انڈونیشیا کا اعلیٰ ترین شہری اعزاز "بنتانگ آدی پورنا” دیا جانا ایک اہم سفارتی پیش رفت ہے۔ اس اعزاز کے بعد ملک کے اندر سیاسی ردعمل بھی سامنے آیا، جہاں کانگریس نے یاد دلایا کہ بھارت کے پہلے وزیر اعظم جواہر لال نہرو کو بھی یہی اعزاز بعد از وفات دیا گیا تھا۔ اس طرح ایک سفارتی موقع داخلی سیاسی بحث کا موضوع بن گیا۔

الف نیوز نے دو روز قبل اپنے اداریے میں یہ سوال اٹھایا تھا کہ حالیہ برسوں میں وزیراعظم مودی کو مختلف ممالک کی جانب سے مسلسل اعلیٰ اعزازات کیوں دیے جا رہے ہیں۔ کیا یہ صرف ان کی ذاتی سفارتی کامیابیوں کا اعتراف ہے، یا اس کے پس منظر میں بدلتی ہوئی عالمی سیاست، علاقائی مفادات، اقتصادی شراکت داری اور تزویراتی تعلقات بھی کارفرما ہیں؟ یہ وہ سوالات ہیں جن پر سنجیدہ اور غیر جانبدارانہ غور کی ضرورت ہے۔

بین الاقوامی اعزازات عموماً کسی فرد سے زیادہ دو ممالک کے تعلقات کی علامت ہوتے ہیں۔ جب کوئی ملک کسی دوسرے ملک کے سربراہ کو اپنا اعلیٰ ترین اعزاز دیتا ہے تو اس کے ذریعے دوستی، تعاون اور مستقبل کی شراکت داری کا پیغام بھی دیا جاتا ہے۔ اس لیے ایسے اعزازات کو صرف داخلی سیاست کی عینک سے دیکھنا بھی درست نہیں، اور انہیں مکمل طور پر شخصی کامیابی قرار دینا بھی حقیقت کا پورا عکس نہیں۔

دوسری طرف جمہوری نظام میں اپوزیشن کا یہ حق ہے کہ وہ حکومت کے بیانیے پر سوال اٹھائے اور تاریخی حوالوں کی یاد دہانی کرائے۔ تاہم قومی سفارتی کامیابیوں پر اختلافِ رائے کا اظہار بھی ایسی زبان میں ہونا چاہیے جو ملک کے وقار اور سیاسی شائستگی کو برقرار رکھے۔

بھارت آج ایک ابھرتی ہوئی عالمی طاقت کے طور پر اپنی موجودگی مضبوط کر رہا ہے۔ ایسے میں ہر بین الاقوامی اعزاز کو نہ اندھی عقیدت کا موضوع بنایا جانا چاہیے اور نہ ہی محض سیاسی طنز کا ہتھیار۔ اصل ضرورت اس بات کی ہے کہ عوام کو بتایا جائے کہ ان سفارتی کامیابیوں کے نتیجے میں ملک کو تجارت، سرمایہ کاری، روزگار، تعلیم، ٹیکنالوجی اور عوامی فلاح کے میدان میں کیا عملی فوائد حاصل ہو رہے ہیں۔

سفارت کاری کی اصل کامیابی تمغوں کی تعداد سے نہیں، بلکہ عوام کی زندگیوں میں آنے والی مثبت تبدیلیوں سے ناپی جاتی ہے۔

International Honours, Diplomacy, and Political Narratives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s receipt of Indonesia’s highest civilian honour, the Bintang Adipurna, marks another significant diplomatic milestone. At the same time, it has sparked political debate within India, with the Congress recalling that India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, had also received the same honour posthumously. A diplomatic event has thus quickly become part of the country’s political discourse.

Just two days ago, Alif News raised an important question: Why are a growing number of countries conferring their highest honours on Prime Minister Modi? Are these recognitions solely a reflection of his diplomatic leadership, or do they also represent shifting geopolitical realities, strategic partnerships, economic interests, and regional cooperation? These are legitimate questions that deserve thoughtful and evidence-based discussion rather than speculation.

International honours are rarely about an individual alone. More often, they symbolize the strength of bilateral relations and a nation’s desire to deepen political, economic, and strategic engagement with another country. Therefore, such awards should neither be viewed exclusively through the lens of domestic politics nor be treated merely as personal achievements detached from broader diplomatic objectives.

In a democracy, the opposition has every right to question the government’s narrative and remind the public of historical precedents. Equally, national diplomatic achievements deserve discussion with political maturity and institutional respect.

As India’s global influence continues to grow, the real measure of diplomatic success should not be the number of medals received but the tangible benefits that diplomacy brings to ordinary citizens—greater trade, investment, employment, education, technology transfer, and regional stability.

Diplomatic honours may attract headlines, but the true legacy of diplomacy is measured by the lasting improvements it delivers to the lives of the people.
