نئی دہلی / حیدرآباد: عالمی اقتصادی بے یقینی، مغربی ایشیا میں جاری کشیدگی، اور تیزی سے بڑھتی ہوئی تیل کی قیمتوں کے درمیان وزیرِ اعظم Narendra Modi نے ملک بھر سے ایک غیر معمولی اپیل کرتے ہوئے کووِڈ دور کے “ورک فرام ہوم” نظام کو دوبارہ زندہ کرنے پر زور دیا ہے۔
حیدرآباد میں ایک عوامی اجتماع سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے وزیرِ اعظم نے کہا کہ مغربی ایشیا میں طویل تنازعات نے عالمی سپلائی چین کو متاثر کیا ہے، جس کے نتیجے میں نہ صرف خام تیل کی قیمتوں میں اضافہ ہوا بلکہ بھارت کے زرِ مبادلہ کے ذخائر پر بھی دباؤ بڑھا ہے۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ کورونا کے زمانے میں ہندوستان نے آن لائن میٹنگز، ویڈیو کانفرنسنگ اور گھر سے کام کرنے جیسے متبادل نظاموں کو کامیابی سے اختیار کیا تھا، اور موجودہ حالات میں دوبارہ انہی طریقوں کو اپنانا “قومی مفاد” میں ہوگا۔
وزیرِ اعظم نے عوام سے اپیل کی کہ وہ غیر ضروری پٹرول اور ڈیزل کے استعمال سے گریز کریں، جہاں میٹرو سہولت موجود ہو وہاں ذاتی گاڑی کے بجائے میٹرو استعمال کریں، اور ممکن ہو تو کار پولنگ کو فروغ دیں۔ ان کا کہنا تھا کہ یہ صرف معاشی حکمتِ عملی نہیں بلکہ ایک قومی ذمہ داری ہے۔
انہوں نے برقی گاڑیوں اور ریل کے ذریعے سامان کی نقل و حمل کو فروغ دینے کی بھی حمایت کی تاکہ درآمدی ایندھن پر انحصار کم کیا جا سکے۔
اپنی تقریر میں وزیرِ اعظم نے متوسط طبقے کو خاص طور پر مخاطب کرتے ہوئے بیرونِ ملک غیر ضروری سفر، مہنگی تعطیلات اور “ڈیسٹینیشن ویڈنگز” کو کم از کم ایک سال کے لئے مؤخر کرنے کی اپیل کی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ سونے کی خریداری بھی زرِ مبادلہ کے ذخائر پر بڑا بوجھ بنتی ہے، اس لیے قومی مفاد میں عوام ایک سال تک سونا خریدنے سے گریز کریں۔
سیاسی حلقوں میں وزیرِ اعظم کے اس بیان پر مختلف ردِّ عمل سامنے آئے ہیں۔ بعض ماہرین نے اسے معاشی احتیاط اور قومی یکجہتی کا پیغام قرار دیا، جبکہ اپوزیشن جماعتوں نے اسے حکومت کی معاشی ناکامیوں کا اعتراف کہا ہے۔
یہ خطاب ایسے وقت میں سامنے آیا ہے جب عالمی منڈیوں میں خام تیل کی قیمتوں میں شدید اتار چڑھاؤ دیکھا جا رہا ہے اور ہندوستانی روپیہ بھی دباؤ کا شکار ہے۔

Modi Calls for Return of “Work From Home” as Global Crisis Pressures Indian Economy
New Delhi / Hyderabad: Amid growing economic uncertainty and escalating tensions in West Asia, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens and institutions to revive Covid-era practices such as work-from-home, virtual meetings, and online conferences in an effort to conserve fuel and protect India’s foreign exchange reserves.
Addressing a public gathering in Hyderabad, Modi said prolonged conflicts in West Asia had disrupted global supply chains, pushed oil prices upward, and increased pressure on India’s economy.
Recalling the systems developed during the pandemic, the Prime Minister noted that remote working and digital communication had once helped the nation function efficiently with reduced physical movement. He said the current global situation once again demanded similar collective discipline in the national interest.
Modi appealed to citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption by using public transport, metro services, and carpooling wherever possible. He also encouraged the adoption of electric vehicles and greater reliance on railways for goods transportation to reduce dependence on imported fuel.
In a notable message directed at the middle class, the Prime Minister urged people to avoid unnecessary foreign travel, overseas vacations, and destination weddings for at least one year. He further advised citizens to refrain from purchasing gold during this period, stating that large-scale gold imports place a heavy burden on India’s foreign exchange reserves.
The remarks have triggered mixed political reactions across the country. Supporters described the appeal as a call for national responsibility during a period of global instability, while opposition parties criticised it as evidence of economic distress and policy failure.
The statement comes at a time when global crude oil prices remain volatile and the Indian rupee continues to face pressure in international markets.
