جمہوریت ایک چراغ ہے—نرم روشنی کا چراغ، جو دلوں کو روشن کرتا ہے، راستوں کو واضح کرتا ہے اور انسان کو اس کی اپنی آواز کا یقین دیتا ہے۔ مگر جب اسی چراغ کے گرد طاقت کے سائے گہرے ہونے لگیں، تو روشنی مدھم نہیں ہوتی، مگر اس کا حسن ضرور مجروح ہو جاتا ہے۔

مغربی بنگال کی سرزمین، جہاں عوام اپنے حقِ رائے دہی کے لیے قطاروں میں کھڑے ہیں، ایک جشن کا منظر پیش کر رہی ہے—مگر اس جشن کے گرد ایک غیر مرئی حصار بھی قائم ہوتا دکھائی دیتا ہے۔ Amit Shah کے حالیہ بیانات، جن میں سختی اور انتباہ کا رنگ غالب ہے، اس حصار کو اور بھی نمایاں کر دیتے ہیں۔

جمہوریت کا سفر دلوں سے گزرتا ہے، بندوقوں کے سائے سے نہیں۔ جب الفاظ میں حدت آ جائے، جب مخالف کو محض اختلاف رکھنے والا نہیں بلکہ خطرہ سمجھا جانے لگے، تو پھر سوال یہ نہیں رہتا کہ کون جیتے گا—سوال یہ ہو جاتا ہے کہ جمہوریت ہار تو نہیں رہی؟

Mamata Banerjee کے نام پر دی جانے والی تنبیہات اور “سزا” کے استعارے، سیاست کو مکالمے سے نکال کر معرکے کی فضا میں لے آتے ہیں۔ اور معرکے میں آوازیں نہیں، صرف نعرے گونجتے ہیں—جبکہ جمہوریت کو نعرے نہیں، شعور چاہیے۔

یہ ایک عجیب تضاد ہے کہ جہاں حقیقی زخم ہیں وہاں مرہم کم ہے، اور جہاں زخم کا اندیشہ بھی نہیں وہاں پٹیوں کا انبار لگا دیا گیا ہے۔ وسائل کا یہ عدم توازن صرف انتظامی سوال نہیں، بلکہ اخلاقی سوال بھی ہے۔ کیا ہم خوف کے ذریعے امن قائم کرنا چاہتے ہیں، یا اعتماد کے ذریعے؟

صوفیا نے ہمیشہ کہا کہ “دل جیتو، زمین خود بخود مل جائے گی۔” مگر سیاست جب دلوں کو جیتنے کے بجائے انہیں تقسیم کرنے لگے، تو زمین بھی ہاتھ سے نکلنے لگتی ہے۔

آج ضرورت اس بات کی ہے کہ طاقت اپنی آواز کو نرم کرے، اختیار اپنی زبان میں شائستگی لائے، اور سیاست اپنے آپ کو خدمت کے آئینے میں دیکھے۔ کیونکہ جمہوریت کا چراغ تیز ہوا سے نہیں بجھتا—وہ بے اعتمادی کے اندھیروں میں خود ہی مدھم پڑ جاتا ہے۔

اور اگر چراغ مدھم پڑ جائے، تو پھر نہ روشنی رہتی ہے، نہ راستہ—صرف سایے رہ جاتے ہیں، اور سایوں میں سفر کبھی منزل تک نہیں پہنچتا۔

Democracy is a lamp—soft, luminous, and quietly powerful. It does not blind; it illuminates. It does not command; it inspires. Yet when shadows of force gather too close around this lamp, the light does not vanish—but its grace begins to fade.

In West Bengal, where people stand in long lines under the sun to cast their votes, one sees the spirit of participation—a living celebration of choice. And yet, surrounding this celebration is an invisible enclosure, shaped not just by security forces, but by the tone of political expression.

The recent remarks of Amit Shah, marked by warning and severity, raise a deeper question: can democracy breathe freely in an atmosphere that feels guarded rather than guided?

Democracy travels through hearts, not through fear. When language hardens, when dissent begins to resemble enmity, the concern is no longer about who will win—but whether something more essential is being lost.

References to opponents, including Mamata Banerjee, framed in the rhetoric of punishment, shift politics away from dialogue and toward confrontation. But democracy is not a battlefield—it is a conversation, fragile yet profound.

There is also a paradox that cannot be ignored: where wounds are real, relief appears scarce; where fear is minimal, protection appears overwhelming. Such imbalance is not merely administrative—it is moral.

The sages have long reminded us: win the hearts, and the ground will follow. But when politics ceases to win hearts and begins to divide them, even the ground beneath begins to tremble.

What is needed today is not the assertion of power, but the refinement of it. Not the height of authority, but the depth of humility. For democracy does not dim in the face of strong winds—it fades quietly in the absence of trust.

And when the lamp fades, what remains is not clarity, but shadow. And no journey guided by shadows has ever truly reached its destination.
