الیکشن کمیشن نے پولنگ افسران کو سختی سے ہدایت دی ہے کہ الیکٹرانک ووٹنگ مشین (EVM) کے امیدواروں کے بٹن واضح اور کھلے رہیں

انتخابات محض ووٹ ڈالنے کا عمل نہیں ہوتے، بلکہ یہ عوام کے اعتماد، شفافیت اور جمہوری وقار کی آزمائش بھی ہوتے ہیں۔ ایسے میں Election Commission of India نے حالیہ ہدایات جاری کرتے ہوئے اس بنیادی اصول کی حفاظت کا عزم دہرایا ہے۔

ذرائع کے مطابق، الیکشن کمیشن نے پولنگ افسران کو سختی سے ہدایت دی ہے کہ الیکٹرانک ووٹنگ مشین (EVM) کے امیدواروں کے بٹن واضح اور کھلے رہیں۔ ان پر ٹیپ، گوند یا کسی بھی قسم کا مواد چپکانا، یا سیاہی، رنگ اور خوشبو جیسے کیمیکل استعمال کرنا، سنگین خلاف ورزی تصور ہوگا۔ کمیشن نے واضح کیا ہے کہ اس نوعیت کی حرکتیں EVM میں مداخلت کے زمرے میں آئیں گی، جو ایک انتخابی جرم ہے۔

افسران کو یہ بھی حکم دیا گیا ہے کہ ایسے کسی بھی واقعے کی فوری اطلاع متعلقہ ریٹرننگ افسر کو دی جائے۔ مزید یہ کہ اگر کسی پولنگ بوتھ پر اس طرح کی بے ضابطگی سامنے آئی تو کمیشن دوبارہ پولنگ (re-poll) کا حکم دینے سے بھی گریز نہیں کرے گا۔

یہ ہدایات ایک نہایت اہم وقت پر سامنے آئی ہیں، جب West Bengal اور Tamil Nadu میں اسمبلی انتخابات کا مرحلہ قریب ہے۔ پولنگ 23 اپریل کو منعقد ہوگی جبکہ بنگال میں مزید مرحلہ 29 اپریل کو ہوگا، اور نتائج 4 مئی کو متوقع ہیں۔

اسی دوران بنگال کے چیف الیکٹورل آفیسر نے بھی سخت ہدایات جاری کی ہیں کہ انتخابی حلقوں سے باہر کے سیاسی کارکنان اور حمایتی، مہم ختم ہونے کے فوراً بعد علاقہ چھوڑ دیں۔ اس اقدام کا مقصد انتخابی ماحول کو غیر جانبدار اور پُرامن بنانا ہے۔

یہ تمام اقدامات ہمیں یاد دلاتے ہیں کہ جمہوریت صرف ووٹ کی طاقت نہیں، بلکہ دیانت، نظم اور احتساب کی روح سے زندہ رہتی ہے۔ جہاں ایک بٹن دبانے کا عمل قوم کی تقدیر بدل سکتا ہے، وہاں اس بٹن کی حفاظت بھی ایک قومی امانت بن جاتی ہے۔

Elections are not merely about casting votes; they are a test of public trust, transparency, and democratic integrity. In this spirit, the Election Commission of India has issued fresh directives to safeguard the sanctity of the polling process.

According to sources, presiding officers have been instructed to ensure that candidate buttons on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) remain clearly visible and unobstructed. Any attempt to cover them with tape, glue, or similar substances—or to apply ink, color, or even perfume—is being treated as interference with the voting process.

The Commission has warned that such actions will fall under EVM tampering, which constitutes an electoral offence. Officers must report any such incident immediately to returning officers, and the Commission has made it clear that it may order re-polling if violations are detected.

These directives come just ahead of crucial Assembly elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, scheduled for April 23, with an additional phase in Bengal on April 29. The results are expected on May 4.

Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer in Bengal has directed all non-local political workers and supporters to vacate constituencies immediately after the campaign period ends. This move aims to ensure a fair and disturbance-free electoral environment.

Ultimately, democracy thrives not only on the right to vote but on the integrity of the process itself. When a single button can shape the destiny of millions, protecting that button becomes a sacred civic duty.
