ایران کے وزیرِ کھیل و امورِ نوجوانان احمد دنیا مالی نے اعلان کیا ہے کہ موجودہ حالات میں ایران کے لیے فٹبال ورلڈ کپ 2026 میں شرکت ممکن نہیں۔ ان کے مطابق امریکہ کے ساتھ جاری جنگی کشیدگی اور ایران کے اعلیٰ رہنما آیت اللہ علی خامنہ ای کی ہلاکت کے بعد ایرانی ٹیم کے لیے امریکہ میں کھیلنا محفوظ نہیں رہا۔
ایرانی سرکاری ٹیلی وژن کو دیے گئے ایک انٹرویو میں وزیرِ کھیل نے کہا کہ امریکہ نے گزشتہ چند مہینوں میں ایران پر دو جنگیں مسلط کیں اور ہزاروں ایرانی شہریوں کو ہلاک کیا۔ ان کا کہنا تھا کہ ایسے حالات میں ایران کی قومی فٹبال ٹیم کو امریکہ بھیجنا ممکن نہیں۔
ورلڈ کپ 2026 کا انعقاد امریکہ، کینیڈا اور میکسیکو میں 11 جون سے 19 جولائی تک ہونا ہے۔ ایران کو گروپ مرحلے میں کیلیفورنیا کے شہر انگل ووڈ میں 15 جون کو نیوزی لینڈ اور 21 جون کو بیلجیم کے خلاف کھیلنا تھا، جبکہ آخری میچ 26 جون کو سیئٹل میں مصر کے خلاف طے تھا۔
دوسری جانب فیفا نے کہا ہے کہ اسے توقع ہے کہ ایرانی ٹیم کو امریکہ آنے کی اجازت دی جائے گی۔ فیفا کے صدر جانی انفانٹینو نے بتایا کہ انہوں نے امریکی صدر ڈونلڈ ٹرمپ سے ورلڈ کپ کی تیاریوں پر گفتگو کی ہے اور انہیں یقین دہانی کرائی گئی ہے کہ ایران کی ٹیم کو امریکہ آنے دیا جائے گا۔
تاہم امریکی صدر ٹرمپ نے گزشتہ ہفتے ایک بیان میں کہا تھا کہ انہیں اس بات سے کوئی خاص فرق نہیں پڑتا کہ ایران اس عالمی ٹورنامنٹ میں شرکت کرتا ہے یا نہیں۔
یہ صورتحال ایک بار پھر اس سوال کو زندہ کرتی ہے کہ جب عالمی سیاست اور جنگ کے سائے گہرے ہوتے ہیں تو کھیل جیسے عالمی میل جول کے میدان بھی اس سے محفوظ نہیں رہتے۔

Iran Says It Cannot Participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Iran’s Minister of Sports and Youth, Ahmad Donyamali, has said that under the current circumstances it is not possible for Iran to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to the minister, the ongoing conflict with the United States and the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have created a situation in which Iranian players would not be safe in the United States.
In an interview with Iranian state television, Donyamali stated that the United States has imposed two wars on Iran within the past several months, resulting in the deaths of thousands of Iranian citizens. He said that sending Iran’s national football team to the U.S. under such conditions would not be feasible.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
Iran was scheduled to play its group-stage matches against New Zealand on June 15 and Belgium on June 21 in Inglewood, California, before facing Egypt on June 26 in Seattle.
However, FIFA stated that it expects Iran’s national team will be allowed to travel to the United States. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said he had met U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss preparations for the tournament and received assurances that Iran would be permitted to participate.
President Trump, however, said last week that he “really doesn’t care” whether Iran takes part in the 48-nation tournament.
The situation once again highlights how global politics and conflict can cast their shadow even over international sporting events meant to unite the world.
