واشنگٹن میں طنزیہ مجسمہ: ٹرمپ اور ایپسٹائین کی "ٹائٹینک” کہانی

واشنگٹن ڈی سی کے قلب میں واقع نیشنل مال ایک بار پھر سیاسی طنز و احتجاج کے ایک غیر معمولی منظر کا گواہ بنا، جب منگل کی صبح وہاں ایک دیوہیکل مجسمہ نصب کیا گیا جس میں سابق امریکی صدر Donald Trump اور بدنام زمانہ مالیاتی شخصیت Jeffrey Epstein کو فلم Titanic کے مشہور منظر کی طرز پر دکھایا گیا ہے۔

تقریباً بارہ فٹ بلند اس مجسمے کو سنہری رنگ سے رنگا گیا ہے۔ اس میں ٹرمپ کو ایپسٹائین کے پیچھے کھڑا دکھایا گیا ہے، جیسے وہ ایک جہاز کے اگلے حصے پر کھڑے ہوں — بالکل اسی انداز میں جیسے فلم “ٹائٹینک” کے کردار جیک اور روز کھڑے ہوتے ہیں۔

مجسمے کے نیچے نصب تختیوں پر طنزیہ الفاظ درج ہیں جن میں کہا گیا ہے کہ جس طرح فلم کی محبت بھری کہانی شاہانہ سفر اور پرتعیش محفلوں کے پس منظر میں پروان چڑھی، اسی طرح یہ یادگار ٹرمپ اور ایپسٹائین کی دوستی کو خراجِ طنز پیش کرتی ہے، جو بقول فنکاروں "پرآسائش سفر، شور و ہنگامہ خیز پارٹیوں اور خفیہ خاکوں” کے گرد گھومتی رہی۔

اس تنصیب کے اطراف دس بینرز بھی نصب کیے گئے ہیں جن پر دونوں شخصیات کی مشترکہ تصاویر کے ساتھ جملہ "Make America Safe Again” درج ہے، جبکہ امریکی محکمہ انصاف کے نشان میں لفظ "Justice” کو سرخ رنگ سے مٹا دیا گیا ہے۔

یہ مجسمہ دراصل ایک نامعلوم فنکارانہ گروہ "The Secret Handshake” کی تخلیق ہے۔ یہی گروہ اس سے پہلے بھی نیشنل مال پر ٹرمپ اور ایپسٹائین کی دوستی کو موضوع بناتے ہوئے طنزیہ فن پارے نصب کر چکا ہے۔ ان فنکاروں کی اصل شناخت ابھی تک منظرِ عام پر نہیں آئی۔

یاد رہے کہ جیفری ایپسٹائین کو کم عمر لڑکیوں کے جنسی استحصال کے الزامات کے تحت گرفتار کیا گیا تھا اور وہ 2019 میں جیل میں ہلاک ہو گیا تھا۔ ٹرمپ نے ماضی میں کہا تھا کہ وہ ایپسٹائین کو محض سماجی سطح پر جانتے تھے اور ان کا تعلق سن 2000 کی دہائی کے وسط میں ختم ہو گیا تھا۔

وائٹ ہاؤس کی ترجمان نے اس تنصیب پر ردِ عمل دیتے ہوئے کہا کہ اگر فنکار واقعی انصاف کے متلاشی ہیں تو انہیں ان سیاست دانوں کے بارے میں بھی اسی طرح کے فن پارے بنانے چاہئیں جنہوں نے ایپسٹائین کے مجرم قرار پانے کے بعد بھی اس سے رابطے برقرار رکھے۔

نیشنل مال طویل عرصے سے احتجاجی فن اور علامتی تنصیبات کا مرکز رہا ہے، جہاں فنکار اور سماجی کارکن اپنے خیالات کو مجسم صورت میں پیش کرتے ہیں۔

اس مجسمے پر عوامی ردِ عمل بھی متنوع رہا۔ کچھ لوگوں نے اسے سیاسی طنز اور اظہارِ رائے کی آزادی کی مثال قرار دیا، جبکہ بعض نے اسے ذوقِ عام کے خلاف اور غیر ضروری اشتعال انگیزی قرار دیا۔

Satirical Statue on the National Mall Portrays Trump and Epstein in a “Titanic” Scene

The heart of Washington, D.C., witnessed an unusual blend of political satire and public art on Tuesday morning when a towering statue appeared on the National Mall, depicting Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein reenacting a famous scene from the film Titanic.

The nearly 12-foot installation, painted in gold, shows Trump standing behind Epstein at the bow of a symbolic ship, echoing the iconic pose of the film’s characters Jack and Rose.

Plaques at the base of the structure carry satirical text suggesting that just as the fictional love story of Titanic unfolded amid luxury voyages and lavish gatherings, this monument ironically commemorates the controversial friendship between Trump and Epstein — described by the artists as a bond shaped by luxury travel, extravagant parties, and secret sketches.

Around the installation stand ten banners displaying photographs of the two men together with the slogan “Make America Safe Again.” The insignia of the U.S. Department of Justice appears on the banners with the word “Justice” deliberately redacted.

The installation is the work of an anonymous collective known as “The Secret Handshake,” a group that has previously placed other satirical pieces on the Mall highlighting the relationship between the two men. The true identities of the artists remain unknown.

Jeffrey Epstein, who faced charges of trafficking and abusing underage girls, died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial. Trump has repeatedly stated that he knew Epstein socially but that their relationship ended in the mid-2000s and that he had no knowledge of Epstein’s criminal activities.

Responding to the artwork, a White House spokesperson suggested that critics should also highlight politicians who allegedly maintained ties with Epstein even after his conviction.

The National Mall has long served as a stage for protest art, symbolic installations, and public expressions of dissent or reflection.

Public reaction to the statue has been mixed. Some visitors praised it as a bold expression of political satire and freedom of speech, while others criticized it as distasteful and unnecessarily provocative.

As one observer remarked while standing near the installation:

“Sometimes art says aloud what politics tries to keep hidden.”
