دنیا کی سیاست میں بعض واقعات ایسے ہوتے ہیں جو وقتی خبر نہیں رہتے بلکہ زمانے کے ضمیر پر ایک مستقل سوال بن کر ثبت ہو جاتے ہیں۔ امریکی سرمایہ دار Jeffrey Epstein کا معاملہ بھی انہی سوالوں میں سے ایک ہے — ایک ایسا سایہ جو آج بھی عالمی طاقت کے ایوانوں کے گرد منڈلا رہا ہے۔

یہ صرف ایک مجرم کی کہانی نہیں تھی۔ یہ اس نظام کی کہانی تھی جس میں دولت، طاقت اور اثر و رسوخ کبھی کبھی قانون اور اخلاق دونوں کو اپنے قدموں تلے روند دیتے ہیں۔ اپسٹائن کی زندگی اور اس کے تعلقات نے دنیا کو یہ سوچنے پر مجبور کیا کہ آخر وہ کون سی پوشیدہ راہداری ہے جس کے ذریعے طاقتور لوگ انصاف کی نگاہ سے اوجھل ہو جاتے ہیں۔

اس داستان میں حیرت صرف جرم کی نوعیت نہیں بلکہ اس کا دائرہ بھی ہے۔ دنیا کی بااثر شخصیات — سیاست دان، صنعت کار، اور عالمی اشرافیہ — اس حلقے میں دکھائی دیے جہاں دوستی، دعوتوں اور خفیہ محفلوں کے پردے کے پیچھے ایک تاریک حقیقت چھپی ہوئی تھی۔ ناموں کی فہرستوں، خفیہ پروازوں اور بند کمروں کی سرگوشیوں نے دنیا بھر میں ایک سوال کو جنم دیا: کیا طاقت کا اخلاق سے کوئی تعلق باقی بھی رہ گیا ہے؟

ستم ظریفی یہ ہے کہ یہی بااثر حلقے اکثر عالمی فورمز پر اخلاقیات، انسانی حقوق اور امن کی باتیں کرتے نظر آتے ہیں۔ وہی لوگ جو دنیا کو تہذیب اور قانون کا درس دیتے ہیں، کبھی کبھی اپنی ذاتی زندگیوں میں انہی اصولوں کی پامالی کرتے دکھائی دیتے ہیں۔ یہ تضاد ہی ہمارے زمانے کی سب سے بڑی اخلاقی المیہ ہے۔

اپسٹائن کی موت کے بعد بھی اس کہانی کے بہت سے دروازے بند نہیں ہوئے۔ بلکہ بعض سوال اور زیادہ گہرے ہو گئے ہیں۔ کون سی قوتیں تھیں جو اس راز کے گرد خاموشی کا حصار قائم کیے ہوئے تھیں؟ کون سے نام تھے جو تاریخ کے اندھیروں میں چھپا دیے گئے؟ اور سب سے بڑھ کر — کیا عالمی طاقت کا نظام خود اپنے احتساب کے قابل ہے؟

صحافت کا اصل امتحان یہی ہے کہ وہ ان سوالوں کو زندہ رکھے۔ خبر کا کام صرف واقعات کی اطلاع دینا نہیں بلکہ طاقت کے سامنے سچ کا آئینہ رکھنا بھی ہے۔ اگر صحافت خاموش ہو جائے تو طاقت کی دیواریں اور بھی بلند ہو جاتی ہیں۔

الف نیوز کا یقین ہے کہ معاشروں کی اصل طاقت صرف فوج یا دولت نہیں بلکہ اخلاقی شفافیت ہوتی ہے۔ جب طاقتور لوگ اپنے اعمال کے لیے جواب دہ ہوتے ہیں تو ہی انصاف زندہ رہتا ہے۔

ورنہ تاریخ ہمیں بار بار یہی بتاتی ہے کہ طاقت کے محل اکثر باہر سے روشن اور اندر سے تاریک ہوتے ہیں — اور جیفری اپسٹائن کی کہانی اسی تاریکی کی ایک جھلک ہے۔

Even after Epstein’s death, the story has refused to fade. In many ways, it has only deepened the mystery. What forces surrounded this network of secrecy? Which truths remain buried beneath layers of silence? And perhaps the most unsettling question of all: can the global system of power truly hold itself accountable?

This is where journalism faces its most serious test. The role of the press is not merely to report events but to keep difficult questions alive. When journalism dares to hold a mirror before power, it safeguards the moral health of society. When it falls silent, the walls of influence grow higher and more impenetrable.
