کبھی کبھی تاریخ ایک لمحے میں ہمیں آئینہ دکھا دیتی ہے۔
ڈھاکا سے اُٹھنے والی ایک آواز — تحفظ، شمولیت اور مساوات کی — صرف ایک سیاسی بیان نہیں، بلکہ ایک اخلاقی اعلان ہے کہ ریاست کا اصل چہرہ اُس وقت پہچانا جاتا ہے جب وہ اپنی اقلیت کے ساتھ کھڑی ہو۔

وزیرِ اعظم Tarique Rahman کا یہ وعدہ کہ ہر شہری، خواہ وہ ہندو ہو یا مسلمان، برابر کے حقوق اور تحفظ کا مستحق ہے — جنوبی ایشیا کی سیاست میں ایک اہم پیغام رکھتا ہے۔ ایسے وقت میں جب ماضی کی ہلچل نے خوف اور بے یقینی کو جنم دیا، یہ اعلان ایک مرہم کی طرح محسوس ہوتا ہے۔

مگر سوال صرف بنگلہ دیش کا نہیں۔
یہ پورے خطے کا سوال ہے — اور خاص طور پر ہمارے اپنے ضمیر کا۔

جب کسی ملک میں اقلیتوں کے خلاف نفرت آمیز بیانات معمول بن جائیں، جب سیاسی اسٹیجوں پر اشتعال انگیز جملے تالیاں سمیٹیں، جب خوف کو ووٹ میں ڈھالا جائے — تو پھر ریاست کی روح زخمی ہوتی ہے۔ اقلیت کا آنسو دراصل اکثریت کی اخلاقی شکست کا اعلان ہوتا ہے۔

اقلیت کا تحفظ محض آئینی شق نہیں، یہ تہذیبی پیمانہ ہے۔
ریاست اگر اپنے کمزور شہری کے لیے ڈھال نہ بن سکے تو اُس کی طاقت محض اعداد کا کھیل رہ جاتی ہے۔

الف نیوز یہ سمجھتا ہے کہ انصاف کا کوئی مذہب نہیں ہوتا، مگر ناانصافی ہمیشہ مذہب کے نام پر ہی کی جاتی ہے۔
جب ایک ہندو شہری بنگلہ دیش میں محفوظ ہو، اور ایک مسلمان بھارت میں باوقار ہو — تبھی سرحدیں نرم پڑتی ہیں۔ تبھی جنوب ایشیا نفرت کی تاریخ سے نکل کر انسانیت کی طرف قدم بڑھا سکتا ہے۔

یہ اداریہ کسی ملک کے خلاف نہیں، بلکہ ہر اس ذہنیت کے خلاف ہے جو نفرت کو سیاست کا ایندھن بناتی ہے۔
اگر اکثریت واقعی عظیم ہونا چاہتی ہے تو اُسے اپنے مخالف نہیں، اپنے کمزور کو گلے لگانا ہوگا۔

اقلیت کا آنسو تاریخ کے صفحات پر دیر تک چمکتا ہے۔
اور اکثریت کا ضمیر اگر جاگ جائے تو وہ آنسو روشنی بن جاتا ہے۔

“The Minority’s Tear and the Majority’s Conscience”

At times, history offers a mirror in a single moment.
A promise from Dhaka — of protection, inclusion, and equality — is not merely political rhetoric; it is a moral declaration. A state reveals its true character in the way it stands beside its minorities.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s assurance that every citizen — Hindu or Muslim — deserves equal rights and security carries significance far beyond national borders. In a region long marked by suspicion and sectarian memory, such words act as balm.

But this is not only Bangladesh’s question.
It is a question for the entire region — and for our collective conscience.

When hate speech against minorities becomes routine, when inflammatory rhetoric gathers applause, when fear is converted into votes — the spirit of the republic suffers. The tear of a minority is, in truth, a reflection of the moral failure of the majority.

Minority protection is not merely a constitutional clause; it is a civilizational measure.
A nation that cannot shield its most vulnerable reduces its strength to arithmetic.

Justice has no religion — yet injustice is so often committed in its name.
Only when a Hindu feels safe in Bangladesh, and a Muslim feels dignified in India, can borders soften and humanity rise above history.

This editorial stands not against any nation, but against every mindset that feeds on division.
If a majority aspires to greatness, it must embrace — not exclude — the weaker voice.

For the tear of a minority lingers long in history.
And when the majority’s conscience awakens, that tear becomes light.
