فرانس نے امریکہ کو ایک واضح اور غیر مبہم پیغام دیا ہے کہ اگر گرین لینڈ پر کسی بھی قسم کے قبضے یا طاقت کے استعمال کی کوشش کی گئی تو یہ نہ صرف بین الاقوامی قوانین کی خلاف ورزی ہوگی بلکہ یورپ اور امریکہ کے درمیان قائم وسیع تجارتی تعلقات بھی شدید خطرے میں پڑ سکتے ہیں۔
فرانسیسی وزیرِ خزانہ Roland Lescure نے واشنگٹن میں امریکی وزیرِ خزانہ Scott Bessent سے ملاقات کے دوران کہا کہ گرین لینڈ ایک خودمختار خطہ ہے جو مملکتِ Denmark کا حصہ ہے، اور ڈنمارک یورپی اتحاد کا رکن ہے۔
“یہ ایک ایسی سرخ لکیر ہے جسے عبور نہیں کیا جانا چاہیے،” لیسکیور نے دوٹوک الفاظ میں کہا۔
یہ بیان ایسے وقت میں سامنے آیا ہے جب امریکی صدر Donald Trump بارہا گرین لینڈ کو امریکی قومی سلامتی سے جوڑتے ہوئے اس پر “ملکیت” کے دعوے کر چکے ہیں، جس نے یورپ میں شدید تشویش پیدا کر دی ہے۔
فرانسیسی وزیرِ خزانہ نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ اختلافات کے باوجود امریکہ اور یورپ کو مکالمہ جاری رکھنا ہوگا، خاص طور پر چین پر نایاب معدنی وسائل کے انحصار کو کم کرنے جیسے عالمی مسائل پر۔ تاہم انہوں نے خبردار کیا کہ اگر خودمختاری اور بین الاقوامی اصولوں کی پامالی ہوئی تو دنیا ایک “بالکل نئے اور غیر یقینی مرحلے” میں داخل ہو جائے گی۔
یاد رہے کہ یورپی یونین اور امریکہ کے درمیان اشیا اور خدمات کی دو طرفہ تجارت 2024 میں 1.6 ٹریلین یورو سے تجاوز کر چکی ہے، اور امریکہ یورپی یونین کی سب سے بڑی برآمدی منڈی ہے۔

Any Move on Greenland Could Jeopardise EU–US Trade Relations

France has delivered a stark warning to the United States, cautioning that any attempt to seize Greenland would represent a serious breach of international norms and could place Europe’s economic relationship with Washington at grave risk.
French finance minister Roland Lescure said he conveyed this message directly to US Treasury secretary Scott Bessent during talks in Washington, reflecting deep European anxiety over President Donald Trump’s repeated claims regarding the Arctic territory.
“Greenland is a sovereign territory of a sovereign country — Denmark — which is part of the European Union. This is not something to be tampered with,” Lescure stated.
Trump’s insistence that the US would take “ownership” of Greenland, citing national security concerns, has unsettled European capitals. While disagreements between Europe and Washington persist on issues ranging from tariffs to technology regulation, Lescure stressed the importance of continued engagement and dialogue.
“When differences arise, staying engaged is always better — as long as certain lines are not crossed,” he said, reminding that France and the US share a 250-year-long alliance.
When asked whether the EU should impose economic sanctions in the event of a US invasion of Greenland, Lescure avoided direct speculation, noting that such an act would plunge the world into “entirely new and unpredictable territory.”
The EU and the US together form the world’s largest bilateral trading partnership, with combined trade in goods and services exceeding €1.6 trillion in 2024. Any disruption to this relationship, Alif News observes, would not merely be an economic shock but a moral and diplomatic rupture — one that challenges the very foundations of the post-war global order.
