’اعلانِ جنگ‘ — نیویارک کے میئر زہران مامدانی کا وینزویلا میں امریکی فوجی کارروائی پر صدر ٹرمپ سے براہِ راست رابطہ

نیویارک سٹی کے نو منتخب میئر Zohran Mamdani نے کہا ہے کہ انہوں نے امریکی صدر Donald Trump سے براہِ راست بات کر کے وینزویلا کے صدر Nicolás Maduro اور ان کی اہلیہ Cilia Flores کی امریکی فوج کے ہاتھوں گرفتاری پر سخت مخالفت درج کرائی۔ مامدانی نے ایک خودمختار ملک پر یکطرفہ فوجی کارروائی کو “اعلانِ جنگ” اور بین الاقوامی قوانین کی صریح خلاف ورزی قرار دیا۔
میئر مامدانی کے مطابق انہیں ہفتہ کی صبح اپنی انتظامیہ — جن میں چیف آف اسٹاف اور پولیس کمشنر شامل تھے — کی جانب سے اس غیر معمولی عالمی پیش رفت پر بریف کیا گیا، جس میں بتایا گیا کہ وینزویلا کے صدر اور ان کی اہلیہ کو گرفتار کر کے وفاقی تحویل میں New York City منتقل کیا جا رہا ہے۔
پریس کانفرنس میں سوال کے جواب میں میئر مامدانی نے کہا:
“میں نے صدر سے براہِ راست بات کی اور اس اقدام پر اپنی مخالفت واضح کی۔ میں نے اپنا مؤقف رکھ دیا — اور بات وہیں ختم ہو گئی۔”
یہ واقعہ ایسے وقت سامنے آیا ہے جب میئر مامدانی کی حلف برداری کو محض دو دن گزرے ہیں۔ انہوں نے ایک بیان میں کہا کہ “حکومتوں کی تبدیلی کی کھلی کوششیں صرف بیرونِ ملک ہی نہیں بلکہ نیویارک میں بسنے والے ہزاروں وینزویلی شہریوں کو بھی براہِ راست متاثر کرتی ہیں۔ میری اولین ترجیح نیویارک کے ہر شہری کی سلامتی ہے۔”
دوسری جانب امریکی اٹارنی جنرل Pamela Bondi نے سوشل میڈیا پلیٹ فارم ایکس پر بتایا کہ مادورو اور سیلیا فلورس کے خلاف نیویارک کے سدرن ڈسٹرکٹ میں فردِ جرم عائد کی جا چکی ہے۔ الزامات میں نارکو دہشت گردی کی سازش، کوکین کی اسمگلنگ، خودکار ہتھیاروں اور تباہ کن آلات کی ملکیت اور ان کے استعمال کی سازش شامل ہے۔
امریکی کانگریس کے سینئر رکن اور ہاؤس انٹیلیجنس کمیٹی کے رکن Raja Krishnamoorthi نے اس کارروائی پر شدید تحفظات کا اظہار کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ اگرچہ مادورو ایک “غیر قانونی آمر” ہیں، مگر اس بنیاد پر کانگریس کی اجازت کے بغیر فوجی طاقت کا استعمال آئین کی خلاف ورزی ہے۔
انہوں نے مطالبہ کیا کہ ٹرمپ انتظامیہ فوری طور پر کانگریس کو مکمل بریفنگ دے، امریکی اہلکاروں کی سلامتی اور ممکنہ جانی نقصان کی تفصیلات سامنے لائے، اور واضح کرے کہ امریکا کے وینزویلا پر “کنٹرول” کے دعوے کا قانونی جواز کیا ہے۔

‘Act of War’: NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani opposes U.S. military action in Venezuela, speaks directly with President Trump

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he spoke “directly” with U.S. President Donald Trump to register his opposition to the U.S. military capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, calling the unilateral action against a sovereign nation an “act of war.”
Mayor Mamdani said he was briefed Saturday morning by senior officials in his administration, including his chief of staff and police commissioner, on the capture and the plan to hold the Venezuelan president and first lady in federal custody in New York City.
Responding to questions at a press conference, Mamdani said:
“I called the president and spoke with him directly to register my opposition to this act. I made my position clear, and we left it at that.”
The development comes just two days after Mamdani was sworn in as mayor. In a statement, he warned that the “blatant pursuit of regime change” has direct consequences for New Yorkers, including tens of thousands of Venezuelans living in the city.
U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi said Maduro and Flores have been indicted in the Southern District of New York on charges including narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, and weapons-related offenses, adding that they would “face the full wrath of American justice.”
Meanwhile, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi criticized the move, stating that acting without congressional authorization undermines the Constitution’s separation of powers. He urged the administration to immediately brief Congress, disclose any casualties, and account for the safety of U.S. personnel.
Krishnamoorthi warned that publicly asserting U.S. control over another sovereign nation erodes the rule of law, weakens America’s global credibility, and risks making Americans less safe.
