پوتی کی خواہش پوری کرنا ضروری تھا، ویدک رسومات پر تنازع کے بعد ڈی ایم کے رہنما دورائی مروگن کی وضاحت

تمل ناڈو کی حکمراں جماعت ڈی ایم کے کے جنرل سکریٹری اور سینئر رہنما دورائی مروگن نے اپنی پوتی کی شادی میں ویدک رسومات اور سنسکرت منتروں کی ادائیگی پر اٹھنے والے تنازع کے بعد وضاحت پیش کرتے ہوئے کہا ہے کہ انہوں نے محض اپنی پوتی کی خواہش پوری کی تھی۔ تاہم انہوں نے اس واقعے پر افسوس کا اظہار بھی کیا اور عوام سے اپیل کی کہ اسے سیاسی رنگ نہ دیا جائے۔

دورائی مروگن کے مطابق بیرون ملک تعلیم حاصل کرنے والی ان کی پوتی نے انہیں بتایا تھا کہ وہ دوسری ذات سے تعلق رکھنے والے ایک نوجوان سے محبت کرتی ہے اور ویدک رسومات کے مطابق شادی کرنا چاہتی ہے۔ ان کا کہنا تھا کہ پوتی کی خواہش کے پیش نظر انہوں نے اس کی شادی انہی رسومات کے مطابق انجام دینے کی اجازت دی۔

اس معاملے پر دراوڑ کژگم کے صدر کے ویرامنی نے سخت تنقید کرتے ہوئے سوال اٹھایا کہ کیا یہ طرزِ عمل ڈی ایم کے کے بنیادی نظریات، بالخصوص عقلیت پسندی اور خودداری کی تحریک سے انحراف نہیں ہے؟ دوسری جانب ٹی وی کے رہنما اور وزیرِ خزانہ میری ولسن نے بھی ڈی ایم کے پر دوہرے معیار اپنانے کا الزام عائد کیا۔

واضح رہے کہ ڈی ایم کے کی نظریاتی بنیادوں میں عقلیت پسندی، سماجی مساوات اور ذات پات کے امتیاز کی مخالفت کو بنیادی اہمیت حاصل ہے۔ پارٹی تاریخی طور پر پیریار کی تحریکِ خودداری کی حامی رہی ہے، جس میں مذہبی رسومات اور ذات پات پر مبنی سماجی امتیازات کے بجائے برابری اور انسانی وقار کو ترجیح دی جاتی ہے۔ اسی پس منظر میں پارٹی کے جنرل سکریٹری کے گھرانے میں ویدک رسومات کے تحت شادی کی تقریب سیاسی اور نظریاتی بحث کا موضوع بن گئی ہے۔

دورائی مروگن کی پوتی سینتامارائی اور فلم پروڈیوسر کنن روی کے صاحبزادے دیپک روی کی شادی یکم نومبر کو چنئی میں منعقد ہوئی تھی، جس میں سابق وزیرِ اعلیٰ ایم کے اسٹالن، اداکار دھنوش، سیوا کارتیکیئن اور فلمی دنیا کی متعدد معروف شخصیات نے شرکت کی۔

“I Had to Fulfil My Granddaughter’s Wish”: Duraimurugan Responds to Vedic Wedding Controversy

DMK General Secretary and senior leader Duraimurugan has sought to clarify the controversy surrounding the performance of Vedic rituals and Sanskrit chants at his granddaughter’s wedding, saying that he had only fulfilled her personal wish. He also expressed regret over the event and appealed to the public not to politicise the matter.

In his statement, Duraimurugan explained that his granddaughter, who had studied abroad, had informed him that she was in love with a person belonging to a different caste and wished to marry him according to Vedic rituals.

He said he was in a position where he had to respect and fulfil her wishes, and therefore the wedding was solemnised in accordance with the rituals she had chosen. He also expressed regret over the controversy that followed.

The explanation came after strong criticism from Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani, who questioned whether the use of Vedic chants at the wedding was inconsistent with the DMK’s core principles of rationalism and self-respect.

TVK leader and Finance Minister Marie Wilson also criticised the DMK, accusing the party of double standards.

The controversy has attracted attention because the DMK has traditionally upheld rationalism, social equality and opposition to caste-based discrimination as central ideological principles. The party has historically promoted Periyar’s Self-Respect Movement, which advocates equality and human dignity while rejecting caste hierarchies and religious rituals in marriage ceremonies.

The participation of Vedic rituals in the family wedding of the party’s General Secretary has therefore triggered a wider political and ideological debate over the consistency between personal choices and public political principles.

The wedding of Duraimurugan’s granddaughter, Senthamarai, and Deepak Ravi, son of film producer Kannan Ravi, was held in Chennai on November 1. Former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, actors Dhanush and Sivakarthikeyan, along with several prominent personalities from the film industry, attended the ceremony.
