مکہ مکرمہ محض ایک شہر نہیں؛ وہ کروڑوں دلوں کی سمت، مسلمانوں کی روحانی وابستگی کا مرکز اور ایک ایسی مقدس امانت ہے جس کی حرمت کسی سیاسی کشمکش کی محتاج نہیں۔ اسی لیے جب جنگ کے شور میں مکہ کا نام آتا ہے تو معاملہ صرف ایک عسکری دعوے تک محدود نہیں رہتا، بلکہ پوری امت کے جذبات اور مذہبی احساسات اس سے وابستہ ہو جاتے ہیں۔

صنعا کے السبین اسکوائر میں جمع ہونے والے حوثی حامیوں نے سعودی عرب کے اس الزام کو سختی سے مسترد کیا ہے کہ حوثی تحریک نے مکہ مکرمہ کو نشانہ بنانے کی کوشش کی۔ مظاہرین کا کہنا ہے کہ یہ الزام جھوٹ اور پروپیگنڈے پر مبنی ہے اور مقدس شہر کے نام کو یمن میں سعودی فوجی کارروائیوں کے لیے عوامی حمایت حاصل کرنے کی غرض سے استعمال کیا جا رہا ہے۔

سعودی مؤقف اپنی جگہ ایک سنگین دعویٰ ہے، جبکہ حوثی تحریک اس کی مکمل تردید کرتی ہے۔ ایسے حالات میں اصل سوال یہ ہے کہ جنگ کے دوران مقدس مقامات کے بارے میں کیے جانے والے دعووں کی تصدیق کس طرح ہوگی؟ کیا مذہبی جذبات کو سیاسی اور عسکری بیانیے کا حصہ بنانا کسی بھی فریق کے لیے مناسب ہے؟ اور کیا مکہ مکرمہ جیسے مقدس مقام کا نام اختلافات کو گہرا کرنے کے بجائے تمام فریقوں کو اپنی ذمہ داری کا احساس نہیں دلانا چاہیے؟

اسلامی تعلیمات میں مقدس مقامات کی حرمت غیر معمولی اہمیت رکھتی ہے۔ قرآن مجید کہتا ہے:

وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ شَعَائِرَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا مِن تَقْوَى الْقُلُوبِ

ترجمہ: ’’اور جو اللہ کی نشانیوں کی تعظیم کرے تو یہ دلوں کے تقویٰ میں سے ہے۔‘‘
(سورۃ الحج: 32)

یمن کی جنگ نے پہلے ہی ایک طویل انسانی المیے کو جنم دیا ہے۔ اس جنگ میں سیاسی اختلاف، علاقائی طاقت کی کشمکش اور عسکری کارروائیوں کے درمیان عام انسان کی زندگی سب سے زیادہ متاثر ہوئی ہے۔ اب اگر مقدس مقامات بھی جنگی بیانیے کا حصہ بن جائیں تو یہ تنازع صرف میدانِ جنگ تک نہیں رہتا، بلکہ لوگوں کے مذہبی جذبات کو بھی تقسیم کی لکیر میں بدل دیتا ہے۔

حوثی مظاہرین کا کہنا ہے کہ وہ مکہ مکرمہ کی حرمت کے محافظ ہیں؛ سعودی عرب کی طرف سے لگائے گئے الزام کی حقیقت کا فیصلہ قابلِ اعتماد اور آزادانہ شواہد ہی کر سکتے ہیں۔ مگر ایک اصول پر اختلاف کی گنجائش نہیں: مکہ مکرمہ کسی جنگ کا نعرہ نہیں، پوری امت کی امانت ہے۔

جنگیں ختم ہو جاتی ہیں، بیانیے بدل جاتے ہیں، مگر مقدس مقامات کی حرمت تاریخ سے کہیں زیادہ دیرپا ہوتی ہے۔
مکہ کو جنگ کی زبان سے نہیں، امن اور حرمت کی زبان سے یاد کیا جانا چاہیے۔

Mecca’s Sanctity, the Language of War and the Question of Truth

Mecca is not merely a city. It is the spiritual direction of millions, a centre of profound religious devotion and a sacred trust whose sanctity should never become dependent on political conflict. That is why whenever Mecca enters the language of war, the matter goes far beyond a military allegation. It touches the deepest religious sentiments of Muslims around the world.

At Al-Sabeen Square in Sana’a, supporters of the Houthi movement have strongly rejected Saudi Arabia’s allegation that the Houthis targeted the holy city of Mecca. The protesters describe the accusation as false propaganda and argue that the name of the holy city is being used, in their view, to generate public support for Saudi Arabia’s military campaign in Yemen.

The Saudi allegation is, by its nature, a serious one, while the Houthi movement has categorically denied it. In such circumstances, the essential question is how claims involving sacred places can be independently verified during a war. Should the name of a holy city become part of a political or military narrative? And should the sanctity of Mecca not instead remind every party to a conflict of its responsibility?

The Quran places exceptional importance on reverence for sacred symbols:

وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ شَعَائِرَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا مِن تَقْوَى الْقُلُوبِ

“Whoever honours the symbols of Allah—indeed, it is from the piety of the hearts.”
(Quran 22:32)

The war in Yemen has already produced a prolonged humanitarian tragedy. Amid political rivalry, regional power struggles and military operations, ordinary people have borne much of the suffering. If sacred places are also drawn into the rhetoric of war, the conflict risks moving beyond the battlefield and turning religious sentiment itself into another line of division.

The Houthi protesters say they stand for the sanctity of Mecca. The truth of the Saudi allegation, however, can only be established through credible and independently verifiable evidence. One principle should nevertheless remain beyond political dispute: Mecca is not a battle cry; it is a sacred trust belonging to the entire Muslim community.

Wars eventually end. Political narratives change. But the sanctity of holy places outlives the conflicts of their time.

Mecca should be spoken of not in the language of war, but in the language of peace and reverence.
