مہنگائی نے عام آدمی کی زندگی کو اس مقام پر پہنچا دیا ہے جہاں گھر کا چولہا جلانا بھی ایک سوال بنتا جا رہا ہے۔ روزمرہ استعمال کی اشیا کی قیمتیں مسلسل بڑھ رہی ہیں، آمدنی وہیں کھڑی ہے، مگر ضروریاتِ زندگی کا بوجھ ہر گزرتے دن کے ساتھ بھاری ہوتا جا رہا ہے۔ بازار میں قدم رکھتے ہی محسوس ہوتا ہے کہ روپے کی قدر نہیں، انسان کی قوتِ خرید کم ہوتی جا رہی ہے۔

حکومت کے دعوے اپنی جگہ، مگر عوام کی کمر پر پڑنے والا مہنگائی کا بوجھ کسی اعداد و شمار کا محتاج نہیں۔ وہ باورچی خانے کے خالی ڈبوں، سکڑتی ہوئی خریداری اور مہینے کے آخری دنوں کی بے بسی میں صاف دکھائی دیتا ہے۔ سوال یہ ہے کہ جب عوام کی زندگی مشکل سے مشکل تر ہوتی جا رہی ہو تو حکومت کی خاموشی آخر کب تک قائم رہ سکتی ہے؟

یہاں ایک اور سوال بھی ہمارے سامنے کھڑا ہے: وہ جین زی کہاں ہے جو اپنے حقوق کے لیے سڑکوں پر اترنے کا حوصلہ رکھتی ہے؟

پیپر لیک کے خلاف نوجوانوں کا احتجاج اس بات کا ثبوت تھا کہ نئی نسل اپنے مستقبل کے ساتھ کھلواڑ برداشت کرنے کے لیے تیار نہیں۔ مگر کیا مہنگائی ان کے مستقبل کا مسئلہ نہیں؟ جب تعلیم مہنگی ہو، روزگار کے مواقع محدود ہوں، گھر کے اخراجات قابو سے باہر ہوں اور ایک نوجوان کے لیے اپنے خوابوں کو حقیقت میں بدلنا مشکل ہوتا جائے تو کیا یہ سب احتجاج کا جواز نہیں؟

جین زی صرف اپنے امتحان اور ملازمت کے مستقبل کے لیے نہیں، اپنے پورے معاشرے کے مستقبل کے لیے ذمہ دار نسل بھی ہے۔ اگر آج وہ مہنگائی کے خلاف آواز نہیں اٹھاتی تو کل شاید اس کے پاس آواز اٹھانے کے لیے بھی بہت کم بچا ہو۔

یہ احتجاج کسی سیاسی جماعت کے حق یا مخالفت میں نہیں ہونا چاہیے۔ یہ احتجاج روٹی، روزگار، تعلیم، علاج اور باعزت زندگی کے حق میں ہونا چاہیے۔ حکومت کو بھی یہ سمجھنا ہوگا کہ نوجوانوں کی آواز کو سیاسی نعرہ سمجھ کر نظرانداز کرنا آسان نہیں۔ ایک باشعور اور پُرامن عوامی آواز جب اجتماعی مطالبے میں بدلتی ہے تو اقتدار کے بند دروازے بھی کھلنے لگتے ہیں۔

اب سوال صرف یہ نہیں کہ حکومت عوام کی کب سنے گی؟
اصل سوال یہ ہے کہ عوام، خصوصاً جین زی، اپنی زندگی کے اس سب سے بڑے مسئلے پر کب بولے گی؟

اگر جین زی مہنگائی کے خلاف اسی عزم، نظم اور جرات کے ساتھ سڑکوں پر اترتی ہے جس کا مظاہرہ اس نے اپنے تعلیمی حقوق کے لیے کیا تھا، تو شاید حکومت کو بھی یہ احساس ہو جائے کہ عوام کی خاموشی کو ان کی رضامندی سمجھنا ایک خطرناک غلط فہمی ہے۔

جب پیٹ پر مہنگائی کا بوجھ ہو تو خاموشی بھی ایک طرح کا احتجاج بن جاتی ہے—مگر کبھی کبھی خاموشی توڑنا ہی تاریخ کا سب سے بڑا احتجاج ہوتا ہے۔

Will Gen Z Take to the Streets Against Inflation?

Inflation is touching the sky, while the purchasing power of ordinary people is sinking deeper every day. The prices of essential goods continue to rise, household budgets are shrinking, and for millions of families, simply putting food on the table is becoming an increasingly difficult task. Yet, the government appears remarkably unmoved by the growing distress of the people.

Government statistics may tell one story, but the marketplace tells another. The emptying grocery bags, shrinking household purchases and anxiety that grips families before the end of every month are realities that cannot be hidden behind figures.

And this raises an important question: Where is Gen Z?

The younger generation has already shown that it is capable of taking to the streets when its future is threatened. The protests over paper leaks demonstrated that Gen Z is unwilling to remain silent when its educational and employment prospects are put at risk.

But is inflation not a threat to that very future?

When education becomes increasingly expensive, employment remains uncertain, household expenses spiral beyond control and young people struggle to build independent lives, surely inflation is not merely an economic issue. It is a question of dignity, opportunity and the future of an entire generation.

Gen Z therefore has a responsibility that goes beyond examinations and jobs. It is also a generation that can speak for the wider society.

Any protest against inflation need not be in support of one political party or against another. It can simply be a peaceful demand for affordable food, employment, accessible education, healthcare and a dignified life. A government may ignore isolated complaints, but it cannot easily ignore a disciplined and peaceful collective voice.

The question, therefore, is no longer simply: When will the government listen to the people?

The more urgent question is: When will Gen Z raise its voice for the people?

If Gen Z takes to the streets against inflation with the same determination and courage it has shown in defending its educational rights, the government may finally be compelled to recognise that public silence should never be mistaken for public approval.

When inflation puts a burden on the stomach, silence becomes unbearable—and sometimes breaking that silence becomes the most powerful protest of all.
