تعلیم کا مقصد صرف ذہنوں کو معلومات سے بھر دینا نہیں، بلکہ دلوں کو روشنی اور کردار کو وقار عطا کرنا بھی ہے۔ افسوس کہ ہمارے دورِ حاضر کے تعلیمی اداروں میں علم کے ظاہری وسائل تو دن بدن بڑھتے جا رہے ہیں، مگر اخلاقی تربیت کی شمع مدھم ہوتی دکھائی دے رہی ہے۔

آج ہمارے اسکولوں اور کالجوں میں جدید ترین عمارتیں ہیں، ڈیجیٹل کلاس رومز ہیں، سائنسی لیبارٹریاں ہیں، وسیع لائبریریاں ہیں اور کھیلوں کے خوبصورت میدان بھی موجود ہیں۔ مگر سوال یہ ہے کہ کیا ان اداروں سے ایسے نوجوان بھی نکل رہے ہیں جو شائستگی، تہذیب، احترام اور حسنِ اخلاق کے زیور سے آراستہ ہوں؟

گلیوں، بازاروں، بس اسٹاپوں اور بعض اوقات خود تعلیمی اداروں کے احاطوں میں جب ننھے بچوں اور نوجوان طلبہ کو ایک دوسرے کو نازیبا الفاظ، فحش گالیوں اور غیر مہذب انداز میں مخاطب کرتے دیکھا جاتا ہے تو دل بے اختیار یہ سوال کرتا ہے کہ آخر ہماری تعلیم میں کون سی کمی رہ گئی ہے؟

زبان انسان کے باطن کا آئینہ ہوتی ہے۔ جس معاشرے کی گفتگو میں شائستگی مر جائے، وہاں تہذیب کا چراغ بجھنے لگتا ہے۔ افسوس کہ آج بعض بچوں کے لبوں پر وہ الفاظ سنائی دیتے ہیں جنہیں سن کر بڑے بھی شرمندہ ہو جائیں۔ وہ والدین، اساتذہ اور راہ چلتے لوگوں کی موجودگی میں بھی ایک دوسرے کو گالیوں سے نوازتے ہیں، گویا بدزبانی ایک معمول اور فحاشی ایک تفریح بن گئی ہو۔

یہ صورتِ حال صرف بچوں کا قصور نہیں۔ یہ پورے معاشرے کے لیے لمحۂ فکریہ ہے۔ بچے وہی سیکھتے ہیں جو وہ اپنے اردگرد دیکھتے اور سنتے ہیں۔ اگر گھروں میں احترامِ انسانیت کا ماحول کمزور ہو، اگر سوشل میڈیا پر بدتمیزی کو آزادیِ اظہار سمجھ لیا جائے، اگر فلموں، ویب سیریز اور تفریحی مواد میں شائستگی کی جگہ بازاری زبان کو فروغ دیا جائے تو پھر تعلیمی ادارے بھی اس سیلاب سے مکمل طور پر محفوظ نہیں رہ سکتے۔

یہاں اساتذہ کا کردار انتہائی اہم ہو جاتا ہے، خصوصاً ابتدائی جماعتوں کے اساتذہ کا۔ پرائمری اسکول دراصل بچے کی شخصیت کی پہلی باقاعدہ درسگاہ ہوتا ہے۔ یہی وہ عمر ہے جب بچے کے ذہن پر سب سے گہرے نقوش ثبت ہوتے ہیں۔ اگر اس مرحلے پر اسے گفتگو کے آداب، بڑوں کا احترام، چھوٹوں سے شفقت، مجلس کے طور طریقے، صفائی، نظم و ضبط اور حسنِ معاشرت سکھا دیا جائے تو یہی تعلیم زندگی بھر اس کے کردار کا حصہ بن جاتی ہے۔

ضرورت اس امر کی ہے کہ نصابی تعلیم کے ساتھ اخلاقی تعلیم کو بھی برابر کی اہمیت دی جائے۔ ہر اسکول میں اخلاقیات، سماجی آداب اور کردار سازی کے عملی پروگرام ترتیب دیے جائیں۔ اساتذہ صرف کتابوں کے معلم نہ ہوں بلکہ کردار کے معمار بھی بنیں۔ والدین صرف امتحانی نمبروں کی فکر نہ کریں بلکہ اپنے بچوں کے لہجے، الفاظ اور رویّوں پر بھی توجہ دیں۔

ہمیں یاد رکھنا چاہیے کہ ایک اچھا ڈاکٹر، انجینئر، تاجر یا افسر بنانا نسبتاً آسان ہے، مگر ایک اچھا انسان بنانا سب سے بڑی کامیابی ہے۔ قومیں صرف ترقی یافتہ عمارتوں سے نہیں بنتیں بلکہ اعلیٰ کردار رکھنے والے انسانوں سے بنتی ہیں۔

آج وقت کا تقاضا ہے کہ ہم اپنے تعلیمی نظام سے ایک بنیادی سوال پوچھیں: کیا ہم صرف ذہین نسل تیار کر رہے ہیں یا مہذب نسل بھی؟

اگر ہماری درسگاہیں علم کے ساتھ اخلاق، ہنر کے ساتھ کردار، اور کامیابی کے ساتھ انسانیت بھی سکھانے لگیں تو یقیناً ہم ایک ایسا معاشرہ تشکیل دے سکتے ہیں جہاں زبانوں میں مٹھاس، رویّوں میں شائستگی اور دلوں میں احترام زندہ ہو۔

کیونکہ آخرکار کسی قوم کی اصل شناخت اس کی عمارتوں سے نہیں، اس کے کردار سے ہوتی ہے۔

The Moral Crisis in Our Educational Institutions

Education is not merely the process of filling minds with information; it is also the art of illuminating hearts and shaping character. Yet, in many of today’s educational institutions, while physical infrastructure continues to improve, moral and ethical development appears to be steadily declining.

Modern schools and colleges boast impressive campuses, smart classrooms, digital boards, advanced laboratories, expansive libraries, and excellent sports facilities. However, a troubling question remains: Are these institutions producing individuals who embody courtesy, respect, empathy, and civility?

Across streets, marketplaces, public spaces, and sometimes even within school premises, one increasingly encounters children and young students addressing one another with vulgar language, insults, and abusive expressions. Such scenes force society to confront an uncomfortable reality: somewhere along the way, education has become detached from character.

Language is the mirror of the soul. When refinement disappears from speech, civilization itself begins to lose its foundation. It is alarming that children, sometimes at a very young age, casually use words that previous generations would have considered shameful. In public spaces, before elders, teachers, and families, profanity is often spoken without hesitation, as if decency has become outdated and disrespect has become fashionable.

This problem cannot be blamed on children alone. It reflects a wider social crisis. Young minds absorb what they see and hear. If homes fail to nurture respect, if social media glorifies aggression, and if entertainment increasingly normalizes vulgarity, educational institutions inevitably face the consequences.

In such circumstances, the responsibility of teachers becomes immense—particularly those teaching in primary schools. The early years of education are when values are planted most deeply. Children should be taught not only mathematics and language but also how to speak respectfully, how to listen, how to behave in gatherings, how to honor elders, and how to treat fellow human beings with dignity.

Moral education must once again become an essential component of learning. Schools should create structured programs for character building, civic responsibility, and ethical conduct. Teachers must become mentors of character, not merely transmitters of information. Parents, too, must pay attention not only to grades and examinations but also to the language, manners, and behavior of their children.

Producing a successful doctor, engineer, entrepreneur, or administrator is an achievement. Producing a good human being is a far greater one. Nations are not built merely by technology, infrastructure, or economic growth; they are built by people whose character reflects integrity, compassion, and respect.

The time has come to ask a fundamental question of our educational system: Are we creating an intelligent generation, or are we also creating a civilized one?

If our schools can teach ethics alongside knowledge, character alongside competence, and humanity alongside success, then we may yet build a society where speech carries kindness, behavior reflects dignity, and mutual respect becomes a shared social value.

For in the end, the true identity of a nation is not measured by the height of its buildings, but by the character of its people.
