The Hindu کی رپورٹ کے مطابق کرناٹک حکومت کی جانب سے اسکولوں اور پری یونیورسٹی کالجوں میں یونیفارم کے ساتھ محدود مذہبی اور روایتی علامات، بشمول حجاب، کی اجازت دینے کے فیصلے پر سیاسی تنازعہ دوبارہ شدت اختیار کرگیا ہے۔

Yashpal Suvarna، جو 2022 کے حجاب تنازعہ کے دوران اڈپی کالج ڈیولپمنٹ کمیٹی کے نائب صدر کے طور پر حجاب مخالف مہم میں نمایاں کردار ادا کرچکے ہیں، نے حکومت کے اس فیصلے پر سخت اعتراض کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ یہ تعلیمی نظام کو “اسلامائز” کرنے کی کوشش ہے۔ ان کے مطابق اسکول یونیفارم کا مقصد مذہب، ذات پات اور معاشی فرق کو کم کرنا ہے، جبکہ حجاب کی اجازت سے دوبارہ تنازعات جنم لے سکتے ہیں۔

انہوں نے یہ بھی دعویٰ کیا کہ حکومت اقلیتی appeasement کی سیاست کررہی ہے اور حجاب کی اجازت دے کر زعفرانی شالوں کی اجازت نہ دینا “امتیازی رویہ” ہے۔
واضح رہے کہ 2021 اور 2022 میں کرناٹک کے اڈپی سے شروع ہونے والا حجاب تنازعہ پورے ملک میں شدید سیاسی اور سماجی بحث کا موضوع بن گیا تھا۔

تعلیم گاہیں اختلافات بڑھانے کے بجائے باہمی احترام، برداشت اور آئینی شعور پیدا کرنے کی جگہ ہونی چاہئیں۔ کسی بھی جمہوری معاشرے کی اصل خوبصورتی اسی میں ہے کہ وہاں اکثریت کی طاقت اقلیت کے خوف میں تبدیل نہ ہو بلکہ سب کے اعتماد کا ذریعہ بنے۔

“Hijab, Identity, and the Secular Spirit of India”

According to The Hindu, the Karnataka government’s decision to permit limited traditional and faith-based symbols, including the hijab, along with prescribed school uniforms has once again reignited political controversy in the state.

Yashpal Suvarna, who had played a leading role in the anti-hijab campaign during the 2022 Udupi controversy, criticised the move and alleged that the government was attempting to “Islamise” the educational system. He argued that school uniforms are intended to minimise distinctions based on religion, caste, and economic background, and claimed that permitting the hijab could reopen social tensions.

The MLA further accused the government of minority appeasement politics, stating that while hijabs were being allowed, saffron shawls were not receiving similar approval. The hijab dispute that began in Udupi during 2021–22 had evolved into a nationwide political and constitutional debate over religious freedom, secularism, and educational discipline.

Educational institutions should become spaces that nurture constitutional values, coexistence, and mutual respect rather than deepen social divisions. The true strength of any democracy lies in ensuring that the power of the majority never turns into fear for minorities, but instead becomes a source of confidence and equal belonging for all citizens.
