مغربی بنگال کے اسمبلی انتخابات 2026 کے سلسلے میں Election Commission of India نے ایک اہم فیصلہ کرتے ہوئے ضلع ساؤتھ 24 پرگنہ کے فالٹا اسمبلی حلقے کے تمام 285 پولنگ بوتھس پر دوبارہ پولنگ کرانے کا اعلان کیا ہے۔ یہ ری پولنگ 21 مئی کو ہوگی، جبکہ اس حلقے کے نتائج 24 مئی کو جاری کیے جائیں گے۔
یہ فیصلہ اس پس منظر میں سامنے آیا ہے کہ پہلے مرحلے میں چند مخصوص بوتھس پر دوبارہ ووٹنگ کرائی گئی تھی، تاہم فالٹا میں انتخابی بے ضابطگیوں اور ووٹروں کو مبینہ دھمکیوں کی شکایات کے بعد پورے حلقے میں ری پولنگ ضروری سمجھی گئی۔ مقامی باشندوں نے احتجاج کرتے ہوئے الزام لگایا کہ انہیں بعض سیاسی کارکنان کی جانب سے جان سے مارنے کی دھمکیاں دی جا رہی ہیں، جس کے باعث علاقے میں خوف و ہراس کی فضا قائم ہو گئی۔
الیکشن کمیشن کی رپورٹ کے مطابق پولنگ کے دن متعدد شکایات موصول ہوئیں، جن میں الیکٹرانک ووٹنگ مشینوں (EVMs) کے بٹنوں پر چھیڑ چھاڑ، ووٹروں کو ڈرانے دھمکانے، اور پولنگ اسٹیشنوں کے اندر غیر مجاز افراد کی موجودگی جیسے الزامات شامل ہیں۔ بعض مقامات پر ویڈیو ریکارڈنگ کی عدم دستیابی اور دوسرے افراد کے ذریعے ووٹ ڈالنے کے واقعات بھی سامنے آئے۔
واضح رہے کہ مغربی بنگال کی 294 میں سے 293 نشستوں کے نتائج 4 مئی کو جاری کیے جائیں گے، جبکہ فالٹا واحد حلقہ ہوگا جہاں ووٹنگ کے عمل کو مکمل کرنے کے لیے الگ تاریخ مقرر کی گئی ہے۔
یہ پیش رفت ریاست میں انتخابی شفافیت، سلامتی، اور جمہوری عمل کی ساکھ کے حوالے سے ایک بار پھر اہم سوالات کو جنم دے رہی ہے۔
In a significant development during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has ordered a complete re-poll across all 285 polling booths in the Falta Assembly constituency of South 24 Parganas district. The re-election is scheduled for May 21, while the counting of votes for this seat will take place on May 24.
This decision follows earlier re-polling in selected booths, but widespread complaints from Falta prompted the Commission to extend the process to the entire constituency. Villagers in the area staged protests, alleging that they were receiving life threats from local political workers, creating an atmosphere of fear and tension.
According to the Election Commission, several serious complaints were recorded during polling day. These included allegations of tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), intimidation and obstruction of voters, and the presence of unauthorized individuals inside polling stations. In some cases, video footage was unavailable, and instances of proxy voting were also reported.
It is noteworthy that results for 293 out of 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal will be declared on May 4, while Falta remains the only seat with a separate polling and counting schedule.
This development raises fresh concerns about electoral integrity, voter safety, and the credibility of the democratic process in the state.
