انتخابات یقیناً جمہوریت کی روح ہیں۔ مگر روح صرف جسم کی موجودگی سے زندہ نہیں رہتی، اسے اخلاق، برداشت اور سچائی کی سانس بھی درکار ہوتی ہے۔

کسی بھی آئینی نظام میں وہ تمام جماعتیں جو قانونی طور پر رجسٹرڈ ہیں اور انتخابی عمل میں شریک ہوتی ہیں، عوام کے فیصلے کے لیے برابر کی دعویدار ہوتی ہیں۔ یہ جمہوریت کا بنیادی اصول ہے۔ اگر کوئی جماعت عوامی حمایت حاصل کر لے تو وہ حکومت بناتی ہے، اور اگر عوام اسے مسترد کر دیں تو وہ اپوزیشن میں بیٹھتی ہے۔ یہی نظام کا حسن ہے۔

لیکن جب انتخابی میدان میں زبان کا درجہ گرنے لگے، جب مخالفین کو غیر جمہوری کہہ کر خود کو واحد نجات دہندہ کے طور پر پیش کیا جائے، تو سوال اٹھتا ہے:
کیا جمہوریت صرف اپنے لیے ہے یا سب کے لیے؟

جمہوریت میں برتری تقریروں سے نہیں، کارکردگی سے ثابت ہوتی ہے۔ آئین کی وفاداری کا اعلان لفظوں سے نہیں، عمل سے ہوتا ہے۔ اور عوام کو گمراہ کرنا کسی بھی سیاسی جماعت کے لیے وقتی فائدہ تو لا سکتا ہے، مگر تاریخ میں عزت نہیں۔

ہمارا ملک تنوع کی سرزمین ہے — مذاہب، زبانوں، ثقافتوں اور نظریات کا حسین امتزاج۔ اس فضا میں نفرت کی سیاست وقتی تالیاں تو بٹور سکتی ہے، مگر معاشرتی ہم آہنگی کو مجروح کرتی ہے۔ سیاسی اختلاف کو دشمنی میں بدل دینا جمہوری شعور کی علامت نہیں، اخلاقی کمزوری کی نشانی ہے۔

یہ بھی یاد رکھنا چاہیے کہ ہر جماعت اپنی فکر کو بہتر سمجھتی ہے — یہ فطری بات ہے۔ مگر جمہوری بلوغت اس میں ہے کہ مخالف کو غدار، غیر جمہوری یا ناقابلِ قبول قرار دینے کے بجائے عوام کے فیصلے پر اعتماد کیا جائے۔

عوام کو خوف، الزام اور اشتعال کے بجائے وژن، پالیسی اور کارکردگی کی بنیاد پر فیصلہ کرنا چاہیے۔ کیونکہ ووٹ صرف حکومت نہیں بناتا، تاریخ بھی لکھتا ہے۔

جمہوریت کا اصل امتحان یہی ہے:
ہم اختلاف کریں، مگر احترام کے ساتھ۔
ہم مقابلہ کریں، مگر کردار کے ساتھ۔
ہم جیتیں یا ہاریں، مگر آئین اور اخلاق کی سرحد عبور نہ کریں۔

انتخابات میں حصہ لینا جمہوری حق ہے۔
لیکن جمہوریت کی اصل روح — ظرف، برداشت اور سچائی — ان سے کہیں زیادہ قیمتی ہے۔

Democracy Is Not Just a Vote — It Is Character

Elections are undeniably the soul of democracy. Yet a soul does not live by form alone; it breathes through ethics, restraint, and truth.

In any constitutional system, all legally registered political parties that participate in the electoral process stand equal before the people’s verdict. This is the foundational principle of democracy. If a party earns public trust, it governs; if it does not, it sits in opposition. That is the beauty of the system.

However, when the tone of political discourse declines — when opponents are branded as “anti-democratic” while one’s own platform is projected as the sole guardian of the nation — a deeper question arises:
Is democracy meant only for oneself, or for everyone?

In a democracy, superiority is not established through rhetoric but through performance. Commitment to the Constitution is demonstrated not by slogans, but by conduct. Misleading the public may produce temporary applause, but it rarely earns lasting respect in history.

Our nation is a tapestry of diversity — of faiths, languages, cultures, and ideas. In such a landscape, politics rooted in division may generate momentary momentum, but it risks weakening social harmony. Turning political disagreement into moral condemnation reflects not democratic maturity, but ethical fragility.

Every political formation naturally believes in the strength of its own ideology. That is not unusual. What defines democratic maturity, however, is the willingness to allow the people — not aggressive narratives — to determine legitimacy.

Citizens must decide based on vision, policy, and performance — not fear, accusation, or emotional provocation. A vote does not merely form a government; it shapes the moral direction of a nation.

The real test of democracy lies here:
To disagree, yet remain respectful.
To compete, yet preserve dignity.
To win or lose, yet never cross the boundaries of constitutional and ethical responsibility.

Participation in elections is a democratic right.
But the spirit of democracy — character, restraint, and integrity — is far more precious.
