Damascus — US President Donald Trump has pledged a strong response following the killing of two American service members and one US civilian in an attack in Syria that Washington has blamed on the Daesh group.
“There will be very serious retaliation,” Trump said on Saturday, describing the incident as a Daesh-led assault on US forces operating in a highly volatile region of Syria that remains outside full government control.
In a statement shared on social media, Trump said the attack underscored the continued threat posed by Daesh in parts of the country.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, the US president said Syria’s President Ahmed Al-Sharaa was “devastated by what happened” and emphasized that Syrian forces are fighting alongside US troops against militant groups.
Trump added that President Al-Sharaa was “extremely angry and disturbed by this attack,” as investigations into the incident continue.
