سوشل میڈیا کے شور میں جب الزامات کی بازگشت بلند ہوتی ہے تو سچ کی آواز اکثر دھندلا جاتی ہے۔ حالیہ دنوں ایک متنازع تحریر، جس میں ہندوستان کے وزیرِ اعظم نریندر مودی سے متعلق سنگین نوعیت کے دعوے کیے گئے، گردش میں ہے۔ اسے بعض حلقوں نے معروف سماجی کارکنہ مدھو کشور اور سیاست دان سبرامنیم سوامی کے بیانات سے جوڑ کر مزید وسعت دی۔

ایسے حالات میں سوال صرف یہ نہیں کہ کیا کہا گیا—بلکہ یہ بھی ہے کہ جو کچھ کہا جا رہا ہے، اس کے پیچھے کوئی ٹھوس ثبوت موجود بھی ہے یا نہیں؟

صحافت کا بنیادی اصول یہ ہے کہ خبر اور الزام میں فرق رکھا جائے۔ غیر مصدقہ دعووں کو حقائق کے طور پر پیش کرنا نہ صرف پیشہ ورانہ بددیانتی ہے بلکہ معاشرے میں بداعتمادی کو بھی جنم دیتا ہے۔ اگر سوشل میڈیا پر گردش کرنے والے یہ دعوے محض بیانیے ہیں اور ان کے ساتھ کوئی قابلِ تصدیق شواہد موجود نہیں، تو پھر انہیں سنجیدہ خبر کے طور پر پیش کرنا انصاف اور دیانت دونوں کے خلاف ہوگا۔

جب کسی شخصیت پر سنگین الزامات عائد کیے جائیں، تو لازم ہے کہ ان کی بنیاد، ثبوت اور متعلقہ فریق کا مؤقف سامنے لایا جائے۔ بصورتِ دیگر، یہ عمل محض کردار کشی کے زمرے میں آ سکتا ہے، جو نہ صرف اخلاقی طور پر قابلِ اعتراض ہے بلکہ قانونی پیچیدگیوں کو بھی جنم دے سکتا ہے۔

سوشل میڈیا نے اظہار کو جمہوری ضرور بنایا ہے، مگر اس آزادی کے ساتھ ذمہ داری بھی لازم ہے۔ ہر تحریر، ہر الزام، اور ہر تبصرہ ایک اجتماعی شعور کو متاثر کرتا ہے۔ اگر صحافت اس بے مہار بہاؤ کا حصہ بن جائے تو سچ اور سنسنی کے درمیان حد فاصل مٹ جاتی ہے۔

یہ بھی ایک حقیقت ہے کہ طاقت کے ایوانوں میں احتساب ضروری ہے۔ سوال اٹھانا جمہوریت کی روح ہے، مگر سوال کو الزام اور الزام کو فیصلہ بنا دینا انصاف کے تقاضوں کے خلاف ہے۔ صحافت کا کام عدالت بننا نہیں، بلکہ آئینہ بننا ہے—ایسا آئینہ جو نہ صرف دکھائے بلکہ صاف دکھائے۔

Between Allegation and Truth — The Ethical Crossroads of Journalism

In the age of viral narratives, truth often finds itself overshadowed by the intensity of allegations. A recent social media post containing serious claims about the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has sparked widespread attention, with references to Madhu Kishwar and Subramanian Swamy further amplifying its reach.

But beyond what is being said, a more fundamental question arises:
Is there any verifiable evidence supporting these claims?

The essence of responsible journalism lies in distinguishing between verified facts and unverified allegations. When claims circulate without credible evidence, presenting them as truth risks not only professional integrity but also public trust. If these narratives lack substantiation, they cannot—and must not—be elevated to the status of credible reporting.

Serious allegations demand serious proof. They also require the inclusion of responses from the accused. Without these, such discourse risks slipping into character assassination, raising both ethical and legal concerns.

Social media has democratized expression, but it has also amplified the spread of unverified narratives. Every claim contributes to shaping public perception. When journalism echoes these without scrutiny, the boundary between truth and sensationalism dissolves.

Accountability remains essential in a democracy. Questioning power is necessary—but transforming allegations into conclusions without evidence undermines justice. Journalism is not a courtroom; it is a mirror—and it must reflect with clarity, fairness, and responsibility.
